”Oxbridge Days!”
An Original Oil Painting on 14” x 11” canvas panel.
A bit of nostalgia….The scene is of Cambridge Uni friends of my daughter from her days at Oxford uni sitting on the banks relaxing away from hectic studying, chatting and watching the day go by. Although I have painted this scene before in watercolours, still being in my black and white oils phase, I thought it would make a really good subject ! π
This being my tenth oil painting in 24 days!…I think I need to go back to sewing for a rest π My window ledges are crammed to capacity until all the oil paints dry out – so, I must think up some new quirky fabric creations instead, to keep me occupied!
Fab! You are so talented!
Thank you so much Bekki for your lovely comments π
Very evocative – student days in Oxford look brilliant!
From all accounts… she had a wonderful four years there – lots of hard work…but, many happy memories too!
I should think this observational scene brought back quite a few memories for many a student, what a wonderful piece of art β€
Thank you so much Mrs. P, what a lovely comment π I think it works so well because we see only the back of the students, and, my hope was…that it could do exactly as you say..people envisioning their own student days (If they were lucky enough to have them!!) Being from mere working class stock myself, the whole dream of Jen attaining a place and having her education at Ox still is a world away from what we consider normality (even though it was some years ago now) All the little snippets of our little lambs lives are magical to me π
I love this scene! It brings back many memories of my college days. Although the setting was not as pretty as the one in your painting relaxing on the grass with friends during breaks was wonderful. π
Thank you so much Jackie! I’m so happy it has brought back fond memories for you π I was hoping the whole black and white, almost timeless scene, would evoke that very sense to whomever may see it! Like I said on a previous comment reply, I think the picture is able to do that by the very fact that we can only see the rear of the persons in the foreground (implying it could be anybody – even though I know who they are). And, the simplicity of what many, many students must have done, like yourself, to just sit, and relax, together on the grass between studying, sharing time together, must extend to almost everyone who went through college! I’m really pleased with this little scene and I think it works 1000x better monochrome than the first coloured painted study I did π
I completely agree! There is something timeless about black and white. π
There certainly is, a simple scene can stretch across generations π
Absolutely! π
