For the past few days I have immersed myself back into artistic mode, key ingredients were;…One blue Pencil Crayon, One 20 x 16 inches sheet of Textured Watercolour Paper, pencil sharpener and a good rummage around my mind LOL Enjoy !!

The final result is the first in a new series I have planned, of new and exciting Cubism Style Abstract Doodle Art 😉

In the time I’ve been away from WP, I couldn’t resist to add to the little series of pencil sketches depicting ”Wallis Russell and Lamb” – a beautifully knitted pair, gifted to me from the the very generous Mrs P from craftodessey! They have been so much fun to do 🙂

Taking the time to try an capture Mrs P’s wonderful knitted stitches…well as best I could as an artist and not a knitter… below are a couple more of my pencil artworks 🙂

The sketches have been done on rough textured watercolour paper and are all mounted and sitting on my beloved desk easel…made by my Dearest – a piece of equipment most dear and valued for many reasons!

A very exciting commission happened recently, due to my pencil and ink art – I was asked to create a fictional village scene to be used for the logo for an on-line newspaper……more about that in the future, I hope, with the permission of the client/purchaser!! 😉

I started Large…A  16 x20 inch mounted pencil portrait…….to give extra detail! Sometimes, as an artist…it’s just nice to touch base with the simpler things in life, like a piece of paper and a pencil! 🙂 Though, the paper is of the exquisite kind – 100% cotton, rough grade 140lbs/300g/sq m which I thinks added a lot of texture to the finished pieces!
Recently, I did a little gift swap with another WP blogger, MRS. P,  From the wonderful craftodessey!
Part of it was for a little requested pencil sketch of my adorable heritage bunny, which Mrs P had insisted I must have (who was I to pass up such an opportunity ???)……….. when it arrived – with a surprise unexpected little companion, knitted Lamb! My little bunny was given to me with a lovely letter telling me about her history. She was sent to be my new apprentice from the Workhouse. The two little sketches I did for Mrs. P of her lovingly handmade and gifted (to me) knitted bunny, Wallis Russell and Lamb. Which The RM Postie delivered just yesterday as her surprise 🙂

Carried away by the moment – I seem unable to stop at the one I first thought I would do…..After all it is always nice to get an extra surprise!! 😀

Pencil Drawings – ‘Selly Manor, Bournville’

‘Selly Manor – Bournville’

This drawing was done from a photograph I took on a trip to Cadbury World, a chocolate factory near Birmingham. We literally walked around the corner from the Cadbury car park and fell upon the quaintest little village setting. Above, Selly Manor, is one of Birmingham’s oldest buildings dating back originally to around 1300.  Around 1907 it was dismantled, as apparently it was in a bad state of repair, and relocated to its present location in Bournville, as a restoration project by George Cadbury. It now stands as a museum and tourist attraction in the village setting. A beautiful Tudor building!

‘Chipping Campden, Cotswolds’

This little village street scene of Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds can also be seen in my Pen and Ink section. It was done from a photograph taken whilst on a family holiday.  I do like to recreate some of my artwork in different mediums. Whilst, I think, the pencil drawing gives a softer, more romanticised feel to the scene, the pen and ink illustration gives a very crisp no fuss kind of picture. It amazes me how two scenes exactly the same appear so different even when drawn by the same person. It is almost as if the ink illustration conveys matter of factly “I am, what I am” whereas the pencil drawing has more character and depth somehow, even though they are similarly shaded.
