ONE.. of today’s little pencil sketches drawn from my very own Doorstop Dumpy created from my own patterns and ideas….for a glimpse of the cute little green subject – take a look at the link below, you may not have wandered across him on my site before?!

After grabbing my pencils for a little gift swap last week, I am overwhelmed how much I am enjoying the simplest of things once more, just drawing! Today I found myself totally absorbed in three little sketches, not to mention a slowly growing mound of graphite dust and sharpenings LOL 😀 Meet Lenny the Leprechaun, the first of three to be unveiled

After spending last week making lots of little things and a lot of mess, I thought I would change it around – make big things and, well,  less mess (Well, in theory, perhaps!)

These two new characters are made from my own pattern creations using some fabulous new fabrics I found at my favourite store, and, after tidying my ribbons I managed to find just the right ones to coordinate with both new little characters. The pink pig wool mix fabric has a tiny green line running through, (which doesn’t show up very well here) but the little neck ribbon bow matches it perfectly. Likewise, for the dormouse, made from such super soft cotton flannels, I also managed to find the perfect match of ribbons to pick up on the floral inner ears. As ever The trim at the base gave me the perfect excuse to add some decorative coordinating buttons! How could I be happier?!?

As, with all my new range of Doorstop Dumpies, they are now shippable,Worldwide! You might be able to see their little fancy zips at their bases, just sticking out? When they arrive at their new homes, the new owner simply has to unzip, pull out the stuffed cotton bag, remove the temporary ‘stuffing fluff’ and replace with some weighting element, grit/stone/sand or the like, place it into the little cotton bag, zip up, replace in the Doorstop Dumpy and refasten the base zip, A perfect ‘ONE OF A KIND’ character Doorstop Dumpy ready to hold open your door! YAY!

Doorstop Dumpy Owl Twit-twoo Happy Easter to You! 🙂

My newest creation is ready just in time to wish everyone Happy Easter weekend!

This striking stripy character doorstop owl has been made from a coordinating selection of brown and cream cotton print fabrics. Adjusting the pattern I created for my own range of doorstops, I cleverly stitched the eyes and beak in such a way that it can move around and look at you with those big button eyes from different angles. So cute! 🙂

To decorate the character owl doorstop I used a selection of trims and buttons, some vintage and some brand new and finished it off with a lovely rich brown fabric tie with a shiny button stud.

As with all my new range of doorstops they are now shippable to anywhere in the world.  A simple solution to the weight shipping costs and customs restriction problem (Import restrictions in some countries don’t allow for earth/soils/grit) solved by the new owner simply unzipping the base removing the inner zipped bag, which can then be filled with a weighting element, (sand/grit/stone etc) replaced, zipped back up again and a perfect character doorstop ready to keep those doors open to let summer in! I pay the postage so you can add the weight!

Purple pig Doorstop Dumpy!

After my last Doorstop Dumpy post, with all my new characters sitting on the sofa, I decided there was just too much space and there should be a couple more added to the group (Plus all their chatting was eventually revealed to me – by the not so secretive tartan frog! – they had seen the rest of my new material pile and had taken votes of what each piece should be made into!!!) So here is Purple pig, smartly decorated with satin ribbons and coordinating colourful buttons, the newest member for the unique group finished today! 🙂

I’ve been wondering (again recently) why my family nickname me ”Crazy woman”,  though, as I was taking this photograph of my new group of doorstop dumpies, I suppose I can probably see why!?!  What more could I want than a cute collection of characters to chat to? As each one was finished I explained to it who the next one was going to be. Needless to say, they were so in awe, they were speechless! I could almost see the excited anticipation in their little button eyes! Only after I finished the cute little miss piggy dumpy today (AND Tidied up!) did I let them all get together to meet each other. Their eagerness at seeing the others for the first time was evident, as they flung their arms open in warm greetings. (I’ve left them talking amongst themselves on the sofa whilst I put up this post :-)! ) I don’t suppose they will share the gossip with me though, they are too good at keeping secrets!!!

Now I have a clear table again… I feel it pulling me toward it ….for more……………………………………………………………………………

Dormouse – ”DOORSTOP DUMPY” Another of my creations!

Ready just in time to hold open any door, especially when the warm weather arrives! (I know the sun will come out one day and make England warm again…it will… eventually…)

This super cute dormouse, handmade from a lovely floral print cotton mix fabric and wearing a little pocketed apron (perfect for storing the door key!)and matching mop-cap, is ready to meet and great visitors at the foot of your door, a definite talking point for all when they first see it. With a ribbon border and a few buttons to decorate at the base and for eyes and nose, a finishing touch of a little raffia for whiskers, completes the dormouse. Another artistic moment of creative crafting!

Created from my own pattern design, I have a range of different character ‘Doorstop Dumpies’ that I have handmade with love and quality workmanship, they will, when filled with a weighting element do their job perfectly. For reasons of, cost of shipping, and customs restrictions on sand/soils/grit etc. I have made them with a zipped base and inserted a zipped bag so their new owners can easily fill, re-insert weighted bag and zip up, as easy as that and you have a fully functioning ”Doorstop Dumpy”! Ready to go anywhere in the world.

One of my own creations ”DOORSTOP DUMPY” PIG

This is one well fed looking character ”Doorstop Dumpy”

For those who may not have seen MY ”Doorstop Dumpies” before, this is one of the new ones, (Others I have previously made, can be found in the Doorstop Dumpy section of my about page – OR you can commission your own to fit in with your own decor – I am always up for a challenge feel free to contact me if you want a unique not yet made idea put into creation)

I created and designed and hand make from my own patterns a unique range of doorstops that I have called ”Dumpies” They are quite substantial and once the weighting element has been put inside by their new owner, they certainly do the job they have been designed for!

For reasons about shipping ie cost for weight and custom restrictions on sand/soils/grit (which can be viewed on my Etsy site under the ”Doorstop Dumpies”) you will see I have made them with a zip underneath the base for easy to fill access into a pre-inserted zipped bag.

So, if you are getting excited about the warm weather – that’s just around the corner!!! (let’s hope) Then, you might just be needing a character ”Doorstop Dumpy” to hold open your doors to let in the warm refreshing breezes, that is if you can ever stop cuddling it and put it down on the floor to do its job! 🙂

”Doorstop Dumpy” – Bunny Rabbit – Another of my creative ”Dumpy Doorstops”

Pink cotton canvas gingham bunny ”Doorstop Dumpy”

Ok, I know I said no more bunnies for a while, but that was last week, and this little (or rather large in fact) bunny creation was eating away at my brain cells, desperate to be created. So, as I had just enough of this pretty gingham fabric left, I thought it perfect to give over to a bunny doorstop. I had to be so careful as to mark out my pattern precisely as I had literally no room for error, in fact the tiny pieces left wouldn’t have made bunting for a mouse, they were minuscule!

For a contrast to the ears and arms I used some white satin fabric, making it really silky and soft. With the help of covered pipe cleaners inserted in each ear, the new owner can change the position from alert bunny to floppy bunny, while it holds its arms open to great you at the foot of a door (So cute you might just have to pick it up every now and again for a cuddle!) With some pieces of lace trim and some matching poly-cotton pink check material I created a little shawl and a padded little bonnet, tied on with some matching ribbon. A few little ribbon roses were stitched on to decorate and finally a few buttons for the eyes and a perfect pink heart button for its nose.

As I have made this as one of my shippable ”Doorstop Dumpies” it is ready and waiting to ‘hop’ anywhere in the world. The reason it is shippable is that at the moment it has no weighting element inside, to keep shipping costs to as little as possible. The provision of making a zipped base with a removable cotton zipped bag inside means the new owner can simply unzip, remove the bag, and fill with approximately 5/6 lbs     (2/3 k) of grit stone/sand or similar weighting quite easily and they have a perfectly unique doorstop dumpy. This is a one off opportunity as I never make two things the same and as they are from my very own pattern which I created they are a one time wonder so hop to it as for a limited time it comes with free worldwide shipping, perfect to surprise someone in time for Easter, then practical for many years to come!

After coming across some super soft flannel cottons in my local fabric shop I couldn’t resist buying just a little. In fact just about enough to make one of my handmade”Doorstop Dumpies” fortunately I had bought a little of the coordinating red flannel too which was perfect for highlighting the ‘ears’ and ‘feet’ . I set about cutting the pieces from the pattern I had designed and created for this particular ”Doorstop Dumpy” character.  As ever when working with pattern material and all the twists and turns of the character shape pattern pieces I try my best to get everything lined up as near as possible and I think this little chap has turned out just fine. For a little quirkiness I made him a flat cap topped off with an old button and found just the right colour of satin ribbon to give him a little bow tie too. Finished off with some recycled buttons for eyes, he is weighted and ready to go to my upcoming craft fair as another unique hand-crafted creation

Super soft and stylish he’s ready to hold back any door – while sitting smartly on the floor!

After having ‘An elephant’ visit my site and leave a message for me I was inspired to make another creation in my ”Doorstop Dumpies” range. Taking some vibrant flowery fabric and coordinating  plain pink cotton I set about designing a pattern for my idea. See below for the end result, I have first a small poem in the style of,     ‘An Elephant’ (just not quite as good as his!)

She can sit and hold back almost any door

With lace and beads adorning her head

Very pretty she looks –It must be said!

Quite a character to have on your floor!!
