A Unique Boucle Shoulder Bag and Cosmetic Pouch Set

Whilst crafting away on the lovely Shoulder bag above, my Dearest happened to pass by as I was attempting to turn the long handle, by no means an easy feat!!…given the thickness of fabric and narrow two inch wide gap to send the 30 or so inches through. At some point in my concentration and brute force, I seem to remember hearing, ”…trying to lay an egg love??…” To be fair laying a whole clutch of them would have been easier!! But persistence paid off in the end 😉 LOL…That, and having just cleared the local haberdashery of all their large D Rings meant I just needed to make another little bag set!

The quite conservative exterior, gives way, to…a blast of happy, stripy colour inside. All fully lined, even the internal zipped pocket! So, makes for a perfect shoulder bag and pouch set!

boucle-flower-bag-n-pouch-2

Sandwiching synthetic wadding between the boucle and stripy cotton fabric gave a lovely soft, hand quilting effect, with just enough texture to make the bag even more interesting

After finding a couple of super large buttons during my haberdashery scouting trip, I couldn’t resist, and, found it matched perfectly in colour to the pink and black polka dot cotton fabric I had in my stash…something about spots and striped shouldn’t be together??!! Anyone else remember their mother drilling that info to them at a young age?? Anyways, I set about creating a large turned boucle flower to applique as the central feature with the button being used to anchor all in place. After adding the internal zipped pocket, to form three main compartments, and the small open pocket, perfect for keys and the like, and a magnetic clasp, I then added the polka dot binding before joining all together with the lined matching gusset, which also houses the D Rings for the long shoulder strap. Once all the hand stitching was completed and the binding turned back, some small left over pieces of fabric made their transition into a little cosmetic pouch, also with a little turned through boucle flower detail and simple stud fastener.

Soft Quilted loveliness…Bursting with… ‘Happy Colours’!!

What a wonderful way to brighten your day! Every time you open up into the colourful interior, gives a happy boost to the day!…Or, is that just me??!?

The simplicity of the reverse, though, still showing up the gentle hand quilting texture effect.

Lots of love, lots of hand sewing and all at a super amazing promotion price !! Packaged and ready for shipping!! It would make a lovely unique gift for someone special perhaps?! As The Festive Season, creeps ever closer….. take advantage of my Etsy Shop limited discount voucher code …….!!!!

GRABABARGAIN2016 Is THE 15% discount voucher to use on all orders over £20.00 GBP (sorry, doesn’t apply to shipping fees) in my Etsy Shop, running only until the 1st December, 2016!!! So, Grab A Bargain while you can 😉

Okay!! I only have another 16 D Rings left!!…Wonder what will be next then?? Maybe I will have to shelve my bag designing for a week or so, as I get to grips with a commissioned meter high gigantic stocking 😉

New projects for friends and family ! This little hip bag/tote is perfect for everyday use when you need a small bag for just a few essential items. Lightweight and colourful too! Lightly padded and quilted with some simple embroidery detail and a few buttons to finish the look!

New projects for friends, family and Etsy too – like this latest design!
This little shoulder/hip bag/tote is perfect for everyday use when you just need a small bag for a few essential items! Lightweight, fully lined and colourful too! Padded and quilted with some simple embroidery detail and a few buttons to finish the look! It is completely reversible with an extendible base – just in case you find a little unexpected bargain on your travels!!!

The last few weeks seem to have had me lost in clouds…of….new projects…gifts for upcoming events…for both friends and family, and, I still have a couple on the go, but here’s the finished few 🙂

A little Baby 'Sprinkle' present

A little Baby ‘Sprinkle’ present! A little present for my Dear friend’s imminent new grandson 🙂

The first part of a handmade gift for my great nephew twins, some simple little decorations to hang in their bedroom - boy!!! were those little bunting flags fiddly to attach to the wire! The completed boats are only 3'' wide by 9'' high, so you can imagine how small the triangular flags are. I found some florist wire and a small mixed pack of balsa wood pieces, which have been residing FOREVER in my supply cupboard, so, a Stanley knife and some imagination, plus a couple of holes here and there, a few picture hooks, combined with some leftover fabric to match their cot quilts (I made earlier in the year) resulted in two little boat baptism gifts. I have two patchwork cushion covers also on the go to commemorate their precious day too - more on those soon!

Quilted heart tote. A little gift for my dear friend's grand daughter

Left with several small pieces of spotty colourful cotton fabrics from previous projects and a meter and a bit of a lovely turquoise cotton print, which never seems to match anything I ever make… impulse buy – like you do ;-)!  I decided to combine them all together…after all, on their own they seemed useless, so nothing to lose?! From the four spotty fabrics and a piece of white cotton fabric (which has the same print as the turquoise) I determined I had enough to cut out five 4 x 4 inch squares of each colour and twenty white ones. Once I had all my squares, I then cut diagonally to give four triangles from each square, having done this to all 40 squares I then set about sewing them back together including one of each of the four coloured triangles and four white triangles to form a pin-wheel square, which once ironed to flatten all the overlapping seams was trimmed back to a neat 4.5 x 4.5 inch square and surrounded by a narrow 1.25  inch border of white. Loosing the seam allowance sewing on the borders I was left with 20 x 6.5 inch bordered pin-wheel squares. Carefully measuring for long borders of the turquoise which I wanted to surround the panel, I found I had enough left to cut 20 x (6.5 x 6.5 inch) squares of the turquoise too – so I played around with different combinations until I decided to on the straightforward panel above and proceeded to sew the squares together, then surrounded with the turquoise 3.25 inch wide long lengths I had put aside at the beginning. Once all that was done I marked out the diamond grid for quilting, used a 100% cotton wadding as the middle layer and a plain white cotton for the reverse, then hand quilted over the entire panel 🙂  Once the excess oversized wadding and backing were trimmed I found a darker turquoise marble printed cotton fabric which tied in perfectly as the binding. If by now you have counted the squares on the lap quilt, you’ll have noticed I didn’t use all of my 20 pin-wheel squares for the design…so, having a couple left over I decided to make them into a coordinating cushion/pillow cover!

which also used up the small remaining spotty fabrics. The same diamond grid was drawn over the piece though this time I used a soft springy Spotty pin wheel cushion/pillow cover Using this time synthetic wadding for quilting and finished with a simple envelope opening on the back of the cushion/pillow cover

Hand quilted spotty pin-wheel lap quilt 44 inches x 34 inches (1120 mm x 865 mm) I'm really happy with the end result as the little leftovers and the lonesome turquoise fabrics compliment each other in such a simple pretty way :-D

Having been MIA for a little while (spending a lovely time with our daughter and her partner as they plan their wedding) I have eventually got around to doing a little post on a couple of creations I finished before we left – a pretty throw/quilt and coordinating cushion/pillow cover 🙂

Enjoying it’s final wash, and blowing in the Spring breeze, my little make of the week! A whopping 13 hours a day for seven days…Yep, that’s 91 hours of loving labour!!!!!! … has gone into producing this stunning little lap quilt – SO, I would say the price is a steal in labour costs alone!!! Trying to show, that patchwork doesn’t have to involve thousands of colours and stupendous patterns to be beautiful 🙂 !

Pin-wheel fabrics Just two fabrics have been chosen to complete this little masterpiece....well actually, three if you want to include the cream cotton backing! It is one hundred percent cotton through and through, as it had a pure cotton wadding layer too, which means it can be ironed after washing - perfect!!

A beautiful Blue buttoned bag!
AND…just as beautiful on the back too!!

Some people may wonder the point of chopping up bits of material…just to sew them back together again??! Here’s why I enjoy it so much!! Not to mention the fact that I delved into more of my button collection for this one as well…Oooo HAPPY DAYS !!!!!  😀  !!

Not content to make just one side pretty…I did the reverse in the same design too – oh, and then, a lovingly handmade interior pocket as well! Why not look good from every angle??

Just in case you think it's the front again...check out the buttons...a couple are slightly different!

Just in case you think it’s the front again…check out the buttons…a couple are slightly different…all added to the hand stem stitched       lines to give a little flower border effect!

All my totes are fully lined, this one being no different, though a little extra time and effort was spent making an interior patchwork multi pocket and following the theme of the tote bag, I added a few extra little buttons flowers as well - all looking very pretty against the printed blue and white cotton lining! All in all, I reckon this is a brilliant, navy, blues and white 'must have' Summer accessory ;-)

'How "mushroom" do you need in a bag?!"

‘How “mushroom” do you need in a bag?!”

This handmade and designed shopping bag was made from green linen and cotton canvas for the main structure. Each little piece of felt has been hand appliquéd to create the overall picture on the front. On the rear of the bag is also a picture of a toadstool/mushroom which I hand embroidered and then stuffed slightly to make it three dimensional. I hand quilted, with a combination of echo and ditch quilting. Inside there is one of my multi-pocket features, a double pocket – one with a zip, and a coordinating lining of green gingham. Finally I finished off the bag with some colourful old buttons!

I reckon there is as “mushroom” as you need in this bag for a good shopping trip!!!

Crazy Patchwork Bag

Crazy Patchwork Bag

This was another exercise in using small scraps of left over fabric. I found coordinating, deep pink, outer fabrics and added little pieces of those to the centre panel to pull the design together. On the reverse is a hand quilted design, whilst on the front it has been simply ditch quilted. The shoulder bag is approximately 17″ Sq. Internally I lined it with a plain cream cotton and added a multi pocket, one with a zip as well. There is a small loop with a magnetic clasp fastener and decorative buttons to finish off. Another unique patchwork creation!

On The Farm – Cushion Cover

This cushion cover was made from a doodle I had done one day. I simplified the picture to make it simpler for patch-working, then used bright primary coloured cottons for the design and hand appliquéd all the small pieces to form the farm scene. As finishing touches I used some old buttons for tractor wheels and on the scarecrow’s jacket and embroidered some crows in the sky!

Table Runner and Mats

Table Runner and Mats

Having bought a beautiful piece of cotton fabric with little strawberries printed all over, I wondered what to do with it!? (Most patchworkers will know that impulse – buy now – then wonder what to do with it) Eventually after much doodling in a sketch pad, I decided it would make a perfect quirky little table runner and mats – Just right for those cream teas!

Not wanting it to be just rectangular I decided on a elongated hexagon shape and so set about creating a little table set. The centre panels are made from cotton canvas with a cotton strawberry appliquéd by hand. Once I had trimmed to shape I hand quilted through the layers of fabric, wadding and backing, creating another unique piece of patchwork!
