''Oxbridge Days'' An Original Oil Painting on 14'' x 11'' canvas panel . A bit of nostalgia....The scene is of Cambridge friends of my daughter from her days at Oxford uni sitting on the banks relaxing away from hectic studying, chatting and watching the day go by. Although I have painted this scene before in watercolours, still being in my black and white oils phase, I thought it would make a really good subject ! :-)

This being my tenth oil painting in 24 days!…I think I need to go back to sewing for a rest 😉 My window ledges are crammed to capacity until all the oil paints dry out – so, I must think up some new quirky fabric creations instead, to keep me occupied!

I was so happy with my monochrome painting of ‘Lake District Bridge’ I immediately started this yesterday, a local farm, which I previously drew in soft pastels. Again, I love the simplicity of the black and white landscape..it gives a lovely feel to the scene 🙂

Lake District Bridge Original Oil painting on 14'' x 11'' canvas panel Revisiting a scene I have done before, but this time instead of pen and ink , as I used to create the Wedding present for our Nephew and his wife, see below, https://carentaylor.wordpress.com/2013/01/02/pen-and-ink-drawing-of-a-bridge-in-the-lake-district/ I thought I'd continue with my oils and see how it turned out - somewhat simplified from the first drawing, I do like the end result, especially just having used black and white :-)

Stonehenge - done my way!

”…..Sometimes…..’ A poem  by ME!

Caren Taylor copyright 2014 (for both picture image and poem)

‘…..Sometimes…..’

Sometimes we need something ???

but, don’t know what it is…?

Sometimes we want something ???

but don’t know how to get it…?

Sometimes we feel something ???

but don’t know how to respond…?

Sometimes….. things just happen

And…It’s the best feeling in the World..! 🙂

—————————-CAREN TAYLOR 2014 (C)

One day…I knew I needed to paint another mural, but though I knew what I wanted, and, I had a feeling of what it should be, it just wasn’t becoming how I envisaged… in fact it was about a million miles away from making me happy! Then…a Eureka moment! Life is all about change…! So, scrap the first plan!!! Pensively, drawn from one situation to another and seeing things from two different perspectives within my head, there was only one realistic outcome to achieve my aim, I based my creative crowning glory on a Constable! An atmospheric artistic arrangement in my own colours of His ‘Stonehenge’! Painted ferociously with everyday emulsion paint in a matter of hours…when you know something is right…… go for it!!! Was I a Druid in a past life?!?…Maybe?!? Am I happy with the outcome?!? YES!!! I can stand anywhere and look into the perspective of the picture to give me perspective on life, I can sit and wonder in the forefront of my thoughts, or I can delve back and take a deeper moment of thought of what things could or should have been…! Constable’s reasons for painting his picture were his… My mural makes me muse over matters and moments of my life…for ME!

Stonehenge Mural – done my way! But, inspired by Constable!

A simple emulsion painting (using only tester pots and cheap decorating paintbrushes))  which has brightened my days for many years now – I cease to tire of it 🙂 Oh! and I also built a mini Stonehenge at the bottom of our garden, using old stone paving edge stones I dug up – a post for another time, maybe!!!

On many of my posts I have photographed my craft items on our large sofa in our back living- room, which is directly below my huge mural of my beloved Stonehenge. Our back room leads directly through to my painting/drawing/crafting workspace in the conservatory…as a south facing room, it is perfect to work in, maybe for two or three days a year!!!, making for one giant place to work and create! On some of my crafty posts, a snippet or two of the photos, may have included bits of the painting, which was unknown to the viewer …so I am now unveiling what sits above!

For whatever reason…I have been drawn to Stonehenge for years, and, was fortunate to have visited the site…on a surprise trip! – which made me doubly sure.. I must have been some kind of Druid in a past life ;-/! (for the fulfilment if being there, was just indescribable)  – it was the best thing I could ever have wished for and experienced! I have much to thank my Dearest one for, because, the experience, and, even though he didn’t understand my drive to be there… he still took me 🙂

After doing many murals both for my own children in their bedrooms as they grew up and for friend’s, and, sometimes even for their children too, over the years, I suddenly felt the urge to create one for myself!!! Not really knowing what else to add to the unveiling of my wall…I thought I would stick a poem underneath, which also seems a little disjointed from reason too! So they make a perfect coupling :-)!

One amazing purely random fact I want to share………t I have a mirror centrally placed directly opposite the painting, and, if the sun hits the mirror on the summer solstice, which it has done a couple of time over the years, it lights up My Stonehenge in the most amazing way, taking a beam of light through to the back of the painting and through the two furthest stones!

PS. Having first been an untitled poem by myself, I was spurred on by the lovely Mrs. P. to give it one…so, after much deliberation……….and then some more……….I came up with the apt new title of, ‘…..Sometimes…..’ 🙂

Landscapes – ‘From Affetside to Winterhill ‘- Pastel (and Pen& Ink versions) – Landscapes

‘From Affetside to Winterhill’ – Pastel Version
200th post on my blog since 2nd Jan 2013!!!

THANK YOU firstly,  ALL my Viewers, Followers and Commenters. It has been a hectic couple of months to get my site this far, and I really appreciate your support 🙂 . I wanted this post to be one of my favourite pieces of art, to mark my 200th post since I started on this site in January. This local scene is from the little village at the top of the hill, Affetside, overlooking the highest, I believe, hill in Bolton, Where the television and other transmitting masts are located. Affetside, in Bolton, is the only place in the UK with this name, it literally translates as ‘boundary on the hill’ – in other words, half on this side and half the other side. The main road running through Affetside is part of the Roman Road, ‘Watling Street’. For more info on Affetside’s history;  History Affetside . Back to the art! This Pastel drawing was done after taking some photographs on a beautiful crisp clear autumn day. The colours on the land were amazing, everything seemed so much clearer and nearer than it actually is. I really wanted to capture the hues of the grasses, as they had turned with the long dry spell. Pastels seemed the perfect medium! To make this post even more special, I have also included my Pen and Ink ‘From Affetside to Winterhill’  below, which at present, has pride of place in my front living room. (Another post after this, I will be placing the Pen and ink in its own section of my headings linking back to this one.) Hope you enjoy them.

THANK YOU AGAIN EVERYONE!

Cephalonia

Kefalonia

On a family holiday abroad, many years ago, we stayed on the beautiful Island of Kefalonia. The clarity of light was amazing. People who had been there before had told me about this, but until you are actually there you really can’t understand fully what they mean. This picture was done from a photograph I took on a day trip roaming the island. To an artist the colours and light are amazing!

Landscape – ‘Assynt, Scotland’ – Watercolour Landscape

'Assynt - Scotland'

‘Assynt – Scotland’

This picture was painted from a photograph my Daughter took whilst on an Earth Science field trip. They were actually camping out on the side of a mountain in below zero conditions. Having been on field trips similar beforehand, when the offer was put to the group “Who will dig out a toilet for camp?” My daughter quickly raised her hand and proceeded with the task. Why, you may ask did she volunteer? The reason being, that, at the end of the trip, there is no call for volunteers just a pointed finger to the chosen person to fill the toilet in – AND its never pointed at the person who dug the hole in the first place! She has always been quick to learn!!

A beautiful part of Scotland.

'Cezanne's "Mount. Saint Victoire" overlooks Renoir - 'Boating on the Seine'

‘Cezanne’s -“Mount. Saint. Victoire” overlooks, Renoir’s- “Boating on the Seine” !’ OR “Rowing on a Mountain Lake”!

This is one of a mini series of paintings I did, working from old Master’s works. I had the idea of trying to seamlessly gel together two different artists’ masterpieces to form one new image (See another example of this in Still Life (Master Compilation Series) -” ‘EAR’, Where’s He Gone?” – Oil Still Life) These two scenes above, painted in oil, I think, work very well together, and it seems completely plausible that this scene could actually exist. Artwork with a twist. If you take away the titles of the Master’s works and I gave it a new title now as an original painting of “Rowing on a mountain lake” Maybe!!!?
