Deja vu on a mega scale!!! I soooooo wanted to finish ALL my little gifts before the happy arrival – and I DID!! ๐ Exactly 3 & 1/2 weeks saw the creations of two cot quilts, 2 cot tidies, 2 lots of bunting and an extra request from my mum as a special gift! And I have been prompted by Sarah ย ย ย (the expectant and very happy mother to be – to do a little post!) With literally only a matter of days, at most a couple of weeks to go!!
I’m happy to report that I’ve not been kidnapped by aliens!….. and I’m still on this planet…even though I’ve been missing for a short while…….as you’ll see during the post…I’ve been a little preoccupied of late for a multiple couple of good reasons :-D!

And so the first one was finished!!!…I had to prepare myself, for every time I made one, with love, care and plenty of attention to detail….a second was to be just as well and carefully completed! I drew and separately constructed every little piece of applique on all the items. My mind was always on the attention to detail and safety – every thread was double knotted at the beginning and end and every fabric was painstakingly turned back on the quilts, and, treble stitched into place – leaving no doubt that anything could ever fray, or indeed, ever become loose! With two special little additions on their way, nothing could ever be left to chance!! Absolutely everything on the quilts is made from cotton, including the wadding so that care and cleaning, and of course steam ironing to kill germs is always possible! All fabrics have been ย pre-washed (for shrinkage and dye removal) which should mean that nothing, or very little, will effect or change their condition in the future years. Maybe they might even become little heirlooms ๐ What else have I been up to ???…Well……….Sarah had a couple of other ideas for her nursery — but I must point out that she wanted a complete surprise as to all the things I was making — I did ask if she wanted to check out the fabrics before I started……..BUT , ”No!” was her response….” I trust you completely, and I like surprises ;-D!!” OMG… no pressure then????!! Ourย Nephew, Richard and Sarah, his wife, had a very definite desire to do their nursery in a Beatrix Potter, Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle Duck theme( even though they don’t know the gender of their babies) though whilst popular in the eighties, they couldn’t source new of what they wanted now! – So, I offered to try and create something for them as a gift!

To give you some idea of how many (and how tiny my hand stitches are) I placed a little pin for scale!

A little close up of the cot tidy applique – everything drawn, cut and placed by hand before hand stitching in place….Jemima looks so cute, even though she is only half the size of my hand overall on the little pockets…definitely worth all the effort ย ๐
Some of Sarah’s wish list………… Bunting! Cot tidies! (What on earth are they???? – some investigation later and my own take on them – of course produced………….

Cot tidies x 2! With coordinating straps to firmly and safely attach to the end of the cots. You might have guessed by now, that Sarah Has planned an apple green nursery (even though I’ve thrown in a PEA GREEN accent colour!) ย I did warn her about my ”strange choice’ ..but I’ll let you know what she really thinks! Oh My! I do hope she like it!!
Oh Caren these are superb! We have missed your charismatic presence but your time away has obviously been well spent. Pea Green is a perfect choice in my humble opinion as it always looks fresh and they won’t outgrow it for years. Although the photos are small, it al looks so beautifully made – the ‘belt and braces’ approach was a good call. Cot tidies tie onto the end of the cot presumably? Your nephew and niece-in-law are sure to be delighted – and the twins are lucky to have something so special to treasure forever:)
Thank you so much for your lovely comments Sheila ๐ !. I’m so pleased that you agree on the choice of accent colour and how it freshens the overall look – it really did bring everything alive as soon as I placed it next to the other more subtle greens and the effect on the very subtle shade of lilac was made to look brilliant white!! Even as an artist, I still get surprises on how colours change dramaticallywhen you place them together!
LOL…I’ll never be a David Bailey….. but, I have added a couple of close up shots since you saw the post, which might give a better look at some of the tiny details ๐
I forgot to add….”Happy Birthday!” I hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday with your crafting too! ๐
Wow, you did a great job, congratulations! So glad to see you back. ๐
Thanks Sarah, its nice to be back ๐ Though as my fingers recover, I’m giving them a ”treat” by catching up on book-keeping ready for the year end…I could think of better things to do….LOL!
Book-keeping. ๐ Good for you. Glad I’m not doing though. ๐
It’s a case of….’some things you really want to do’ and then there’s……’some things you have to do…’ Oh well, better sharpen my pencil and make a brew before I start!!!
Yup. Have fun. ๐
Now I remember….why I never wanted to work in an office again!!!! ;-/ The most satisfying part was putting all the piles neatly away after I’d finished!! ๐ Hope you’ve had a nicer day??
Well, I have the lurgy but the sun is shining so it’s not been too bad. ๐
Oh No!! Is this the same lurgy you had around Valentine’s ??…or, have you been unlucky enough to catch a different one ๐ฆ ?? – at least you have seen sun today – not much of it over here! Hope you feel better soon xx
Yup, unlucky, this one’s worse. My daughter had it first then she gave it to dad. Now it’s my turn. At least we didn’t all have it at the same time. ๐
Thanks for the kind wishes. I hope you get some sun soon.
Poor you!!!! : ( It sounds like the lurgy has gathered momentum before it grabbed hold of you – I hope you can shake it off soon….meanwhile, I hope you are being pampered – at least a little ๐
Daughter, rather surprisingly and disappointingly, has no sympathy but hubby is being sweet as ever. Feeling marginally better today, thanks. ๐
LOL – Daughters can be like that at times, I’ve found out too !!! I think it’s their way of ‘helping’ …to make us have a ‘stiff upper lip’ in times of weakness – well, that’s the impression I get from my daughter – I’m sure it’s not because they don’t care ! I’m pleased to read that you are at least feeling a little better today and that your hubby is being so sweet too! ;-D
I’m happy to report that I got a bit of sympathy earlier and a lovely hug. I think it’s because today I look like I’ve gone a few rounds with Mike Tyson, and can’t raise my voice above a whisper without having to cough my lungs out. It’s not pretty. ๐
LOL! Poor you ๐ฆ …you do sound a little rough around the edges from your description! I’m sure you felt lots better after getting a Mother’s Day Hug though ๐ Here’s hoping your dreaded ‘Crafter’s Lung’ gets better soon Sarah xx
Phew, that was a nasty bug Caren. I haven’t been so ill for over a decade. I was getting a bit worried, I can tell you. I’m still not over it yet but I’m through the worst of it. Thanks for your kind wishes. โค
It sounds like you have been through the wringer a couple of times with this nasty alien bug!! I’m sure your family have been worried too. I’m so pleased you are starting to feel much better Sarah!! ๐ Take it easy!!!
I was worried about the aliens for a bit! Glad to here you’re ok and participating in some exciting events. ๐ My favourite is the mini Dumpy with his super cute, super cool jacket! ๐
Thanks so much Irida :-)! I was really happy I had just enough fabric left (which is why he’s a mini dumpy) to have every thing coordinate! I was super pleased with my little jacket and how it turned out – though I don’t expect Saville Row will be calling on me quite yet LOL ๐
Rabbit is wonderful!
Thank you so much Joanna ๐ I hope Richard and Sarah like it too when we see them this weekend !
How absolutely adorable! All if the things you made are wonderful – I’m sure the parents to be are going to love everything. ๐
Thank you so much for your lovely comment Jackie! I hope you are feeling better than last we spoke xx ??
I must admit to feeling a little nervous…I have had some lovely comments here on WordPress…but, will Sarah and Richard really like what I’ve made ?!?- I sure hope so- I will find out one way or another this weekend ๐ Take care Jackie ((((Big Hugs))))
It’s very slow going but I’m hanging in there. Thanks for asking! I have not really been online or in email much – I’m focusing on getting better. I’m sure they will love all of it. You are so talented – I’m in awe. ๐
It really doesn’t sound as if you are feeling any better at all, I’m so sorry to read Jackie! So, I really appreciate you taking time out to visit and comment too, it always means an awful lot to know you like the things I make and gives me more confidence for our visit at weekend. I sure hope thing improve soon for you!!!! Rest up all you can xx
I will thanks!! (((Big Hug))) I hope you have a lovely weekend. ๐
๐
WOW how beautiful, and such delicate stitches , you even made a mini Dumpy in the form of a rabbit …A RABBIT ๐ the parents to be can not fail to be impressed, congratulations on another triumph xx
Thank you so much Roma for your lovely comments โค though as the time approaches to hand over the gifts I am getting ever more nervous – just in case they're not quite what they imagined!
I thought the little rabbit dumpy might catch your attention LOL ๐
The little dumpy is so cute!! Such a good idea, love the little jacket!
Thank you so much!! I believe he has been very helpful keeping the bedroom door open! ๐
