Origami button faced pouches

Is it just me??? Or, does it look like someone just asked them…”WHO DONE IT?!” I can almost imagine them whistling as they look around and everywhere, except straight at you!

Okay, it looks like I have that same issue still in 2016! Stopping at just one – ISN’T POSSIBLE ;-/ But, I do think they are really cute! Though, tomorrow is definitely time for new ventures for my Etsy shop, after all, I can’t just fill it with cute quirky storage pouches. Though, of course, they would be perfect if you had lots of tiny, weeny little orphaned kangaroos 😉 OMGoodness!… you could nurture 8 different sized ones at the same time

Having bought four lovely new pieces of coordinating fabrics just days before Christmas (then, having cleared my studio to make room for family gatherings) the thought of it has been gradually burning a hole in my brain ever since! Singeing thoughts of what I could make with it at first, then, determining I will have plenty left over after it has been made into it’s original ‘purchased for’ idea, the smouldering continued… eventually becoming a vast hole, now filled with little ideas…..Mind you, as the sales are still on, four new fabrics might not be enough after all LOL 😀

Now, do I really need to sleep tonight??? Or, shall the crafting begin now ;-)?! More on the new projects coming soon!!

”Summertime Blues” Patchwork hand quilted pin wheel design lap quilt/picnic blanket

Blue pin-wheel design lap quilt or 'Summertime Blues' as I decided to call it :-) After making the red and black version shown in the last post, https://carentaylor.wordpress.com/2015/04/25/beautiful-minimalistic-patchwork/ I knew I wanted to make a cool fresh blue version - I'm so happy with the result!! Even though I've called it a lap quilt, equally it could be a picnic blanket or even a bright bold table cover ;-) Keeping with the simple theme as before, though this time I have used three different blue cotton print fabrics for the front panel and a simple clean white cotton for the backing then hand quilted through a 100% cotton wadding layer finally binding with the same blue fabric as the thin inner border. Even though it was a dull overcast day when I took the photograph, it certainly brightened up the garden :-)

WHY FOLLOW THE CROWD...? The latest version of my little fun fabric Sheep in Boots series :-) A super colourful larger, than previous, patchwork landscape and appliquéd felt sheep picture - being larger I could get more little sheep in LOL ;-)

WHY FOLLOW THE CROWD…?
The latest version of my little fun fabric Sheep in Boots series 🙂 A super colourful larger, than previous, patchwork landscape and appliquéd felt sheep picture – being larger I could get more little sheep in LOL 😉                                             …Although the finished picture does have glass in the frame to keep everything clean, I did remove it for this photo so as not to get reflections..

Take one mount and picture frame…lots of little offcuts of fabric…some felt and a silly imagination…..et voilà – ‘Why Follow the Crowd…?’ Fun fabric art collage 😀

Fabric mounted collage, before being placed in the glazed frame, I like to make everything neat and tidy...so, a black felt backing and some strips of black cotton fabric were applied to and around the finished little fabric scene, this makes the fabric picture happy to just sit in the frame behind the mount with out slipping too!

After spending a whole day routing through my buttons, I decided that I would use some recently purchased little Flower Buttons....not really with any plan in mind I set about with two 6.5 x 6.5 inch square pieces of cream fabric and marked out a simple line design for the colours I'd chosen. As soon as I'd finished stem stitching and adding the buttons....all became clear they would be a feature on a new bag design! A Tote it would be them.... ;-)

After recovering from my last set of little creations, I spent a whole day routing through my buttons, Ahhh BLISS!!!  I decided that I would use some recently purchased little painted wooden Flower Buttons….not really with any plan in mind, I set about with two 6.5 x 6.5 inch square pieces of cream cotton fabric and marked out a simple line design for the coloured buttons I’d chosen. As soon as I’d finished stem stitching and adding the buttons….all became clear they would be a feature for a new bag design! No plan or pattern at hand, as ever, just develop it as I go along! Then, YAY! I found the perfect cotton fabrics to match in my stash as well….Maybe the stars had aligned ?? A Tote it would be then 😉 !!

A simple but stylish, lightweight, hand-quilted, cotton fabric tote with tiny painted wooden flower buttons!

As they are always so useful, I added one of my little internal multi-pockets and sewed on the last two little coordinating buttons I had left, as a little detail :-)

As they are always so useful, I added one of my little internal triple multi-pockets and sewed on the last two little coordinating buttons I had left, as a little extra detail. Even hidden touches are important too! 🙂

My two little bordered six inch squares hide a little secret...even more storage! Instead of incorporating them into the body of the bag, this time I decided to bind them first and make an extra large full width external pocket which has the benefit of a little magnetic clasp in the centre to keep things all neat, tidy and safe!

My two little bordered, six inch squares, hide a little secret…even more storage! Instead of incorporating them into the body of the bag, this time, after first hand quilting them, I decided to bind them first and make an extra large full width external pocket which has the benefit of a little magnetic clasp(as shown above) in the centre, to keep things all neat, tidy and safe too!

The reverse of the little tote/bag incorporates the same top border detail as the front with a simpler bordered black block design which has also been hand quilted.

The reverse of the little tote/bag incorporates the same top border detail as the front with a simpler bordered black block design which has also been hand quilted with a diamond pattern. With a lengthy pair of straps it can be worn on one shoulder or even cross bodied too!! A great feature if you have much weight inside.

Almost finished.... Another noisy route through my treasured button collection, produced a one off vintage button, which matched perfectly !!!! As always, I still believe I have everything I will probably ever need to make a life time of new little creations (though it's still good to have an indulgent shopping trip every now and again just to make sure ;-D ) The final result a perfect multi-pocketed practical tote bag! .........Right, What's next ???

Almost finished….
Another noisy route through my treasured button collection, produced a one off vintage button, which matched perfectly !!!! It just begged to be sewn onto the little top, centre flap which houses another magnetic clasp!
As always, I still believe I have everything already I will probably ever need to make a life time of new little creations (though it’s still good to have an indulgent shopping trip every now and again just to make sure ;-D )
The final result…a pretty, stylish multi-pocketed, quite unique and very practical tote bag!
………Right, What’s next ??? 😀

Oh Dear! and I thought I had got over the Bunny thing!! Obviously not!!! In between making fun fabric collages I got the unstoppable urge to make a little floral bunny - not just a decorative bunny - but a bunny knitting!!!

Oh Dear! and I thought I had got over the Bunny thing!! Obviously not!!! In between making fun fabric collages I got the unstoppable urge to make a little floral bunny – not just a decorative bunny – but a bunny knitting!!!

Its a little green flower power bunny, designed and handmade, complete with its own knitting bag and a half knitted scarf (I reckon there is enough yarn in that little ball for its new owner to finish off the scarf if they wanted too!)

I have knitted some embroidery thread on two toothpicks and secured them in place with a couple of stitches, made a simple gathered lace trimmed skirt and small alter neck top to match. One of my own pattern designs, a simple cute creation that will happily sit anywhere as a decorative piece, (especially as I designed it with a flat bottom for that reason) Made from small left over pieces of cotton fabrics from other projects I finished it off with a few little buttons, a lovely multi-green satin bow and added tiny beads to the ends of the knitting needle toothpicks then added a little white fluffy pompom tail – its so cute! 🙂

Complete with fluffy pompom tail!

Complete with fluffy pompom tail! Check it out on  MY Etsy Shop, with more images and details available at,          https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/carenscanvasandcraft
