Sewing Set Trio (1)

My way of dealing with those final little snippets of fabric remnants was…Ta Dah!!….A sewing accessory set! 😉 Super for a little gift, maybe in encouragement for a new sewer, or, for a cute quirky gift for a seasoned sewer?! It’s so bright and colourful, it’s sure not to get lost on their work table!! A quilt as you go set of; A patchwork needle case, pincushion and (most important to all crafters (…in my book at least!!) …A matching Mug Rug/Coaster!!! Who can work without a constant brew by their side??

Not to be defeated by throwing away the final last few scraps from my original quilt project (which to be honest would have been very easy to do after the past few weeks of hard work) I didn’t give in!!!!!!!… and mustered up this super bright,  colourful and useful little set instead! I’m now sooooooooo super happy with all the unique little makes from such a limited amount of fabric 🙂 Quite a mission but a great achievement, by, NOT adding to my remnant fabric stash YAY 😀

A close up of the quirky pincushion (not sure what the ghost image is on the pic??;-/) by hand stitching two small squares of fabric, starting with once corner pinned to the centre of one side of the other square and working round gives a great little shape and eight little points where I added a little bead as I stitched then stuffed it firmly for many good years of use!

Now…moving swiftly on.. as well as devising many ways to use all my other bagged remnants….I have my next eight projects cut and ready for their offing! One of my best sellers on my little Etsy shop has been my unique handcrafted Posh Peg Pouches, bought by people  ALL over the World !! Either, for the customer themselves, or, for a unique quirky gift to cheer up someone’s wash day! Still a few available, but more on the way….watch out for the new 2017 collection!!!!

After the last four posts of questing to use every scrap I had left of the same fabrics, I put the last bits into some semblance of order on my chopping board! (In case you’re wondering ’bout t’ title ??!- it’s a bit of Lancashire dialect thrown in 😉 Must be one of those days!)

Anyways….back to the real matter in hand! What could you or even I do with these meagre little scraps?? (I have a little confession before we go any further….BIG SIGH!!) Thinking I was getting towards the end of everything,,,I suddenly found another scrap length of the blue flowery fabric in my stash ;-/ Aaaargh!! Well, I couldn’t just leave it to reappear in many moons to come, it had to be combined in this ‘end of makes’!! So, instead of it leaving me utterly frustrated, I took it as a positive and decided therefore I could go larger, rather than smaller as anticipated with this next make 😉 BUT, what would it be??….

Well…..This!

brushed cotton tote (3)

A super soft and very vibrant reversible design Hand Quilted Shoulder Bag/Tote!! Even the tiniest of scrap leftover crimson has made a little statement on this design

brushed cotton tote (4)

Of course, being reversible, needs another design! By this stage I am seriously running out of sizeable fabric pieces (apart from the blue flowery fabric! OOO Please take note of the duo button detail hear on the fastening flap – as it failed to be noted in the final image properly)….So, this if the result! (I’m rather happy with it though all tiny bits considered) As you can see, it’s all hand quilted too 😉

brushed cotton tote (1)

Measuring out the ‘new discovery’ of MORE blue flowery fabric meant I had just enough to Fully Line, make a Multi-Pocket, trim the outer bag And make a single shoulder strap – surely reason enough to be happy now?! Showing the two open pockets and the full width zipped pocket – using also some of the lovely wooden flower buttons I acquired to strengthen and stabilise the pocket areas.

brushed cotton tote (5)

A Couple of coordinating buttons to go on the front of the magnetic clasp (not photographed very well I’m afraid due to shine) and the little super soft cotton tote is packaged ready for a new life of shopping and adventures!!

Still a few scrap leftovers in the pile, though much smaller now……Amazing how far a kilo or so of fabric can go!

As the leftovers get smaller…so must the projects

After an epic week of using cotton reels, as if they are going out of fashion,  my leftover fabric quest turned to some favourite little makes Sets of Mug Rugs 🙂 I love using small bits to make colourful and useful little creations…So…why not make a few more sets?!!….

4 crazy b c mug rugs (3)

A little crazy patchwork set

4 Br cotton Coasters (3)

and then…back to following the theme of tiny skewed squares

Only a few little strips and lengths left now, which I hopefully will incorporate into something new this weekend. Surely, that must mean…another little trip to the fabric store very soon 😉 !!

Have a Great Weekend everyone!!

A colourful everyday bag/tote made from super soft brushed cotton/flannel fabrics

In my own quest to utilise all my left over fabrics from a previous project… I decided to keep with my theme of ”skewed squares design” and incorporate it into a unique little shoulder bag

Enjoying it’s final wash, and blowing in the Spring breeze, my little make of the week! A whopping 13 hours a day for seven days…Yep, that’s 91 hours of loving labour!!!!!! … has gone into producing this stunning little lap quilt – SO, I would say the price is a steal in labour costs alone!!! Trying to show, that patchwork doesn’t have to involve thousands of colours and stupendous patterns to be beautiful 🙂 !

Pin-wheel fabrics Just two fabrics have been chosen to complete this little masterpiece....well actually, three if you want to include the cream cotton backing! It is one hundred percent cotton through and through, as it had a pure cotton wadding layer too, which means it can be ironed after washing - perfect!!

Another Unique reversible design Tote/Bag..inspired by a colourful collection of more offcuts… rediscovered…stored in, yet another, little bag!

A smart, unique, versatile reversible cotton patchwork quilted Tote/Bag. Working my way through small offcuts (and I do mean small, less than 3 inch squares), determined to give them a purpose, rather than allow them to become landfill! Seemingly, they are useless bits of cotton fabric, until you team them up with other coordinating bits and suddenly……A new creation!! 😀

Two very different, sensible (no little sheep in sight 😉 !!!) designs on one tote bag, all brought together by a simple black, white and purple stripy cotton material 🙂

For a totally different colourful look, my little offcuts fill their own little windows!

Of course, my tote wouldn't be complete without one of my internal multi pocket features - so, keeping it simple but still coordinated, a double pocket, one with a zip A magnetic clasp finishes off perfectly the hand quilted stylish tote bag! Two looks for the price of one - what could be better?! ;-)

Variation of a theme of late.....Place mats and coaster this time!

Variation on a theme of late….Place-mats and coasters this time!

Sometimes, in fact quite often, I question my sanity over my desire to make more than one of something, especially as each one has so much work involved from designing it to the finished creation…BUT…to eventually end up making 12 !?! six place-mats & six coasters (each and every one slightly different too) then hand quilt them all…and, as if that wasn’t enough I added tiny hand stitched flower borders to them all as well..not to mention hand stitching the binding down…I might have to think about upping my hourly work rate from a penny an hour…..;-/

At first, there was a set of two......

At first, there was…a set of two……

….obviously I still didn’t think that was enough….So, off I went again…..

Then there more.....

Then some more…..

In case you had any doubts about the 12……

Altogether now....

Altogether now…. Colourful cotton table mats (including a 100% cotton wadding layer) AND fully washable too!

Perhaps, I’ll just sit and rock quietly in a corner for a while….;-)

Another of my creations – An origami patchwork multi-pocket pouch – with a face!

Patchwork origami folded multi pocket pouch

Patchwork origami folded multi pocket pouch

Since my gingerbread guy craze I seem to have let loose on all things, here I have again gone back to one of my old favourite creations, always with a unique twist. Some years back I was shown how to create a five or six pocket origami patchwork pocket, not content to go with the flow,  experimented with different folding techniques until I came up with my eight pocket pouch, sometimes I have added also a shoulder strap for little ones to have them as a bag. These I have omitted the strap to go with a more widespread audience. They could be used for a make-up bag, a craft utensil organiser, or indeed a little one’s treasured possession organiser.

Starting with either coordinating or contrasting cotton fabrics I have a sandwich of two cotton fabrics with a synthetic piece of wadding between measuring 16.5 inches square. From there I work a few folds and hand sew them into place, after a few more stitching details to bring the seems together and I add a face of recycled buttons. No two are ever going to be the same, making them all a one off product. Hand placing the buttons gives them all a unique character face, A small elastic or hand twisted cord fastener completes the look with their twisted back ‘ears’.

Each multi-pocket origami folded pouch has a differing pocket size internally, with the larger pockets at the back of the pouch and the smaller at the front.

If you are looking for something different – THIS IS IT ! AND all handmade 🙂
