Lake District Bridge Original Oil painting on 14'' x 11'' canvas panel Revisiting a scene I have done before, but this time instead of pen and ink , as I used to create the Wedding present for our Nephew and his wife, see below, https://carentaylor.wordpress.com/2013/01/02/pen-and-ink-drawing-of-a-bridge-in-the-lake-district/ I thought I'd continue with my oils and see how it turned out - somewhat simplified from the first drawing, I do like the end result, especially just having used black and white :-)

''Merlin's magic musings'' An Original Oil Painting on 14'' x 11'' canvas panel Somehow within this week I managed to clean just about every inch of our house and wash anything which wasn't too big to fit in the washer...in readiness for our family get together planned for tomorrow....as well as starting and finishing this little oil painting - I think I did sleep at some point ;-) But feel completely satisfied that both house and picture both got finished in time!!! :-D Merlin can now sit along with the other drying oil canvasses on my window ledge before finding him a slot in my Etsy shop :-)

‘Dapple Shaded Poppies’ – Original Oil Painting on 14 x 11 inch canvas panel

'Dapple Shaded Poppies' It would seem my oil paints and brushes have finally had their dust blown off of them! Two days ago, after clearing and cleaning, like a possessed mad woman, my fabric workspace was eventually reverted back into a painting studio. Rummaging around, I found a dozen oil canvas panels, earmarked for a project a while back, so thought instead of that, I would get my rusty painting arm going again on the little 14 x 11 inch boards. Nature and my garden provided just the right inspiration...nestled right at the foot of our Holly tree! With a little help from the sun through the dappled shade I captured the pretty scene on camera fourwild orange Poppies in amongst the holly leaves. Now I have to think what can go on the other eleven canvases ??? ;-)

My garden poppies made the perfect reason, to get back to oil painting! I had a little request from Mrs. P’s grandson over at craftodessey to show my picture of orange poppies – as he has only ever seen the beautiful red ones – so here they are finished! A couple of weeks should see the oils dry out too, and then, I think it may be destined for My Etsy shop 😉 Better get back out into the garden and see what other treasures I can capture !

Pen and Ink – ‘Old Print and Bleachworks Chimney, Edgworth – Sketch in Inks

'Old Calico Works Chimney in Edgworth'

‘Old Calico Works Chimney in Edgworth’

This is another of my coloured pen and ink sketches done from a photograph I took. It was a beautiful autumn day and because of this, I wanted to inject a feeling of that by using warm ink tones in the painting. Though if you compare others in this section, you will see this one is quite ‘toned down‘ to the vivid and vibrant nature of the others. As you can see I took the photograph from a high vantage point looking down and across the valley. The old, now disused chimney, formerly connected to Quarlton Vale Print and Bleachworks, has always looked somewhat out of place, as it just looms up in the middle of a field. Apparently when it was a working mill, further down in the valley, the chimney was connected via a flue for the best air flow to carry emissions away high above the hills. The scenery around Edgworth is very pretty with rolling hills and little stone cottages dotted here and there on the outskirts of the main village.

'Ronnie'

‘Ronnie’

This painting was done at special request by our family friend, Ronnie, for himself. He confessed he had always wanted a portrait of just himself and decided that he would have one, and that was that! Ronnie also appears in another portrait painting I have done, though he was a little younger on that one,  Watercolour Sepia Family Portrait from Old Photograph (He is the one on the right of that painting). The portrait was done just in time for his 70th Birthday, he said he was so pleased with it, he wanted another for his 80th!!! That’s sorted my present out for him then.

'Poppy Perfection'

‘Poppy Perfection’

In this painting the main thing I wanted to convey to the canvas was the transparency of the the petal with the sunlight shining through in the early morning. The reason I titled it ‘Poppy perfection’ was that I caught this flower on photograph at the pinnacle of its existence. It really was a good year in my garden for poppies (See also my other paintings of poppies especially Oil Painting – Still Life – ‘Poppies on Parade’ which was a collection of flowers from my garden) But I still think this was the most perfect and beautiful poppy I think I have ever see. As if to highlight that fact I painted the background quite abstractly to show the comparison. Whilst the background flowers in my opinion needed to be there for the composition of the still life I didn’t want their distraction from the main focus of the Poppy!

Casterton Bridge -Kirby Lonsdale

Casterton Bridge -Kirby Lonsdale

This simple watercolour was done from a photograph I took Whilst on a day trip to the Cumbrian countryside. I had never been here before and nearly missed the bridge, just at the last minute I escaped from the car (after my husband had stopped!) and poked my way through the bushes to take this very angled photograph.

Musicians in Watercolour

This is almost a small mini series of watercolours I did concentrating on musicians I know, with their instruments. All the paintings were done from photographs I took. Several of the images below have their own separate posting in Portraits  (As they are of my Son! One of him with his violin, his main instrument and one on his saxophone, I even had him pose with a guitar so I could paint it – even though he doesn’t play one!! – playing in his younger years!!!) or Street Art
