‘On the Canal – In Colour’

For those who have already seen the first post of this scene in ‘Pen and Inks’ just in black and white, I thought it might be nice to show you another version of the same coloured with inks. Not a medium I have worked much  with over the years, though every now and then I have another practice as above. I must admit I am always really excited by their vibrancy, (thinking about it, I really should have another practice – A girl can always do with a little excitement!)

Oil Painting of Local Landscape ‘Along the Lane’ in Oils

For those of you who have been through ALL my landscapes so far, You may think I have repeated this scene. True, but, though the previous post was done in Soft Pastel and mounted it measures only 20″ x 16″, this picture above is in fact much larger. It was done on 100 x 80 cm box canvas and painted in oils. I tried to recreate the scene as closely as possible to the photograph I had taken (Though I did take artistic licence and added some colourful foliage at the bottom of the railings – with the canvas so large the railings seemed to overtake the landscape too much).  By use of the oils I wanted to convey light, shadows, colours and textures but at the same time convey also the tranquillity  It is a scene I have recreated several times in different mediums. As this version was the largest, I managed to get more detail in. I love the colours and reflections on the water. From the cottage gardens in the rear of the picture, right across the fishing lodge in the foreground there seems to be an equal share of colours, bringing the whole picture together!
