“On a Ledge Series” – ‘Cactus and Friend’

Bored and uninspired one day, I stood in my kitchen wondering what I could draw? Whilst wondering I absent mindedly started tidying and rearranging things on the ledge. I’m not one for nice pot ornaments, rather have slightly wacky or weird decorative things around! So, as I now had a disarrayed pile of things I had moved and a clean window ledge – The idea struck me. I could use it as a little staging area for a series of still life pictures!!!

The idea for “On a Ledge Series” was born.  Above is one – ‘Cactus and Friend’. A still life done in  colourful pastel.

‘Geranium and Friend – Harvey’, From My series of pictures; “On a Ledge Series”

Meet Otto the Owl – My ‘Doorstop Dumpy’ Crafty Creation

Designed and created by myself, ‘Otto’ looks every bit a university boffin. With his smart brass ‘D’ ring spec’s, mortar board and subfusc . The owl is another one of my creations to act as a weighty little character to hold open any standard door, enhancing your room and provide a talking point!

Frog ‘Doorstop Dumpy’

I have been designing and creating patterns for what I have called my ‘Doorstop Dumpies’. Sizeable and weighty little decorative characters for a practical purpose. Each and everyone – UNIQUE!

Meet my green, spotty, cotton fabric, frog ‘Doorstop Dumpy’ creation – Fredrick. Decorated with old buttons for eyes and around his waist trim, this rather handsome chap, dressed to the nines, has collar and velvet bow tie. He’s quite literally dressed to impress as he holds open the door for you whilst greeting you with a red ribbon rose!

The Dormouse has the key! ‘Doorstop Dumpy’

The pattern I created for this ‘Doorstop Dumpy’ was more successful than I ever thought it would be when first putting it together. As always it has an inner fabric sack sealed with cat litter inside to give it the weight to hold back a standard door. I think ‘She looks very demure with her her mop cap and lace trimmings. Another creation I like to adorn with old buttons. The spare curtain ring, which has been floating around my house for years, at last gets a new purpose too!
