After the last four posts of questing to use every scrap I had left of the same fabrics, I put the last bits into some semblance of order on my chopping board! (In case you’re wondering ’bout t’ title ??!- it’s a bit of Lancashire dialect thrown in 😉 Must be one of those days!)

Anyways….back to the real matter in hand! What could you or even I do with these meagre little scraps?? (I have a little confession before we go any further….BIG SIGH!!) Thinking I was getting towards the end of everything,,,I suddenly found another scrap length of the blue flowery fabric in my stash ;-/ Aaaargh!! Well, I couldn’t just leave it to reappear in many moons to come, it had to be combined in this ‘end of makes’!! So, instead of it leaving me utterly frustrated, I took it as a positive and decided therefore I could go larger, rather than smaller as anticipated with this next make 😉 BUT, what would it be??….

Well…..This!

A super soft and very vibrant reversible design Hand Quilted Shoulder Bag/Tote!! Even the tiniest of scrap leftover crimson has made a little statement on this design

Of course, being reversible, needs another design! By this stage I am seriously running out of sizeable fabric pieces (apart from the blue flowery fabric! OOO Please take note of the duo button detail hear on the fastening flap – as it failed to be noted in the final image properly)….So, this if the result! (I’m rather happy with it though all tiny bits considered) As you can see, it’s all hand quilted too 😉

Measuring out the ‘new discovery’ of MORE blue flowery fabric meant I had just enough to Fully Line, make a Multi-Pocket, trim the outer bag And make a single shoulder strap – surely reason enough to be happy now?! Showing the two open pockets and the full width zipped pocket – using also some of the lovely wooden flower buttons I acquired to strengthen and stabilise the pocket areas.

A Couple of coordinating buttons to go on the front of the magnetic clasp (not photographed very well I’m afraid due to shine) and the little super soft cotton tote is packaged ready for a new life of shopping and adventures!!

Still a few scrap leftovers in the pile, though much smaller now……Amazing how far a kilo or so of fabric can go!

Pair of sk Pillow covers (1)

A unique pair of Patchwork cosy brushed cotton/flannel cushion/throw pillow covers

A week or so ago I set out to buy some super soft cotton flannel fabrics to create a beautiful striking lap quilt  Naturally there was always going to be some left over fabric! On this mission I set myself the goal to… ”’COMPLETELY”’ use up all the left over bits!

In the next couple of posts I will show how, and into what form they took 😉

This being the first I decided to make the most of what I had left over, what better than to make a matching Super Soft  pair of skewed patchwork pillow/cushion covers to go with, or stand alone, the original new quilt.

The first, completed, of a planned range of ”GO GREEN” TOTES! A week or so ago my super huge stack of off cuts once again played on my mind!…. how to approach this ever growing stash ;-/ ?? I decided to pick a colour…green and take it from there….

First, tip out the bag and see what I had to work with....???? Hmm some sorting I think! ;-) I eventually set out four colour palettes (one being the completed tote bag) ...then, took full advantage of being alone for a few days, and made the most humongous mess you can ever imagine! LOL!!! There were threads the length and breadth of the ground floor, mainly courtesy of Peppy's paws, even more off cuts smaller than before, but eventually, four sets of crazy patchwork pieces :-)

Soooo many hours were spent combing each into workable pieces (shown here in their unfinished state) but more than worth the effort - and many reels of cotton - to end up with a totally unique crazy patchwork tote!

Soooo many hours were spent combining each into workable pieces – it nearly did send me ”crazy” trying to fit them together (shown here awaiting their next step) but more than worth the effort – and the many reels of cotton – to end up with a totally unique crazy patchwork tote, not to mention the other three lined up, as my next projects!

Trouble is....now I have the smaller off cuts to deal with ;-)

Trouble is….now I have the smaller off cuts to deal with 😉 I feel a lot of applique Christmas cards are now in order at some point….

Fortunately, as luck would have it, or rather, I worked into the colour scheme fabric from a couple of larger pieces I had so as to complete the back panel, straps and lining with built in multi-pocket too...see below

Inside my crazy cool green patchwork tote is just as pretty as the outside 😉

Another reason why I keep all my bits and pieces, I think it turned out just fine!! …’sew’ much better than it being in landfill – don’t you think ?? 😉

….OH NO!!!!! I can hear the blue off cuts starting to get rowdy in the corner, I have something rather exciting planned for them – maybe they know already…??.. and can’t contain themselves……..LOL 😀

Enjoying it’s final wash, and blowing in the Spring breeze, my little make of the week! A whopping 13 hours a day for seven days…Yep, that’s 91 hours of loving labour!!!!!! … has gone into producing this stunning little lap quilt – SO, I would say the price is a steal in labour costs alone!!! Trying to show, that patchwork doesn’t have to involve thousands of colours and stupendous patterns to be beautiful 🙂 !

Pin-wheel fabrics Just two fabrics have been chosen to complete this little masterpiece....well actually, three if you want to include the cream cotton backing! It is one hundred percent cotton through and through, as it had a pure cotton wadding layer too, which means it can be ironed after washing - perfect!!

Little owls lapquilt

Little owls lap quilt

After scratching my head over what to get my mum for her birthday, I decided I would make her a little day quilt for those afternoon naps she has in her chair, she says she only has then due to boredom – nothing to do with her age of course!

If only, I had thought to do it sooner though, with just over a week until her birthday, I really didn’t know if I would finish it in time???   So, decision made, I set off like the clappers. rummaging for a suitable centre for my simple patchwork squares. Aha! then I remembered, the half yard of little owl fabric! Hmmmmm!…now, where did I put it though…..? I looked at my stack of fabric boxes which are sorted by colour….but the little owls had many colours, so….which colour did I file them under??? (Mental note!- Get another box for things like this!!!) Again, I looked at the boxes stacked two deep floor to ceiling…and sighed…as I started  pulling them down one by one for the search of the little folded piece of fabric! After much box rifling, and rebuilding the stack behind me, I eventually found it….in the purple box!-third to last!! -Aaaargh!!! Now, I had to re-stack them all back again in their rightful place – but, not before collecting coordinating fabrics for the rest of the quilt.

As ever, no pattern involved,  just a matter of a ‘go for it’ approach, which I seem to have with all the quilts I have made so far. After cutting the little owl squares, I got the matching material which coordinated with the different colours on the owls and set about slicing and dicing, then, systematically built the tiny owl squares into larger ones, after connecting the pink border strips, it was ready for hand quilting. The last thing to do was to add the polka dot turquoise binding. “Et voilà !” Finished a day before I needed to be as well! I was pretty please with my eight days work – another unique crafty creation!

And, Yay! My mum loved her surprise Birthday present – I have been informed it has had a nap test too! 🙂
