Peg doll peg bag (2).JPG

After posting just a couple of days ago with some more new Peg Bag designs, I suddenly remembered about a small box of Peg Doll Key-rings I had stored away which I made for craft fairs. No longer able to participate in the strenuous long days of fairs, I decided it would be a shame to let them just lie in the box! So, I have plans to make them a new feature on my cute quirky Peg Bags 🙂 This, being the first one created today!

A little imagination, some snippets of felt, buttons, beads and a little hand sewing, plus the addition of something new and creative to my original, unique peg bag designs, a little hand knitted outfit for a common wooden clothes peg (actually knitted on artists paint brushes, as I was too lazy to search out my grandma’s needles lol) The little peg doll keyring is simply attached by a few threads and can be removed if so wished, making it a two for one bargain A cute Posh Peg Pouch and a Key Ring Fob!! Plus……the new owner has the opportunity to create a little face for the doll ~ triple bonus ;-D

Meerkat pb (1)

Too Cute! ‘A Meerkat moment’….Even I have fallen in love with this little Posh Peg Pouch…. 😀

Even if I sewed for ”26” hours per day for the next 92 years…I would never be able to use up all the fabrics I have accumulated (plus, of course, I always need to buy more ~for new little projects when I don’t have the right ‘stuff’)Having some larger pieces than others, sometimes it is a case of ‘patch-working’ pieces together, as in this fully lined unique little peg bag. The colours were just perfect for the little project, but, the fabric was just too short one way, so, I machine stitched  the little extra needed to create the full lining in readiness for these ‘sooooooooper’ cute little felt applique ‘Meerkats’. All the pieces have been hand drawn (as ever) then, cut and hand stitched into place creating a very unique novelty peg bag. Adding a few little buttons for ”flowers” completes this design…..Of course I can never stop at just one new design ….so,

cheeky monkeys pb (2)

A ”cheeky monkey” peg bag (with the cool new painted wooden hangers I recently bought for these new projects) Just…who has a ”cheeky monkey” peg bag?? ~ Exactly 😉 One of a kind designs!

Little pups peg bag (2)

Getting carried away by cuteness…after being recently commissioned to make a little peg bag with a dog design for a lady in Oz, of her own little ‘Furbaby’ I decided I should add a little canine creation to my line of unique peg bags, so here is the ”little pups” Posh peg pouch for 2016 🙂

More cute quirky designs in progress!! 😉

Careful what you say you like !

Careful what you say you like !!!!!! As it was my father-in-law’s birthday a couple of days ago, I had no idea what to get him as a gift :-/ ? At 70+ what do you want/need I thought??? Having asked the question… ‘Is there something special you would like?’ and getting ‘nothing really…’ as the response! I decided to go with one of the many made up things I had, a little fabric collage that he had really taken a shine to when I made it Not something I would have thought was up his street…but, he really took a fancy to it for some reason…? So, after buying a little frame and a bottle of JD’s I seemed to make my father-in-law very happy…..probably more to do with the JD’s, though the little framed collage did take centre stage on the coffee table too!

With Christmas looming…..I can’t seem to concentrate on any preparations at all until all the birthdays and other celebrations are over!

A few weeks ago, our family had the good news of learning our Nephew and his wife were expecting their first child....Only, it turns out to be twins!!! Awesome :-)

A few weeks ago, our family had the good news of learning that our Nephew and his Wife are expecting their first child 🙂 ….Only, it turns out to be not one but two…twins!!! Awesome 🙂 I already knew that their theme for their baby was to be Peter Rabbit and have intentions in the next couple of months to make a little pram/cot quilt to go along with this, though as everyone was knitting little bootees and the like as congratulation gifts, I decided to make a little fabric collage instead. Sarah, was thrilled with the framed result…I hope she will be as pleased when I make the little quilts-not that she knows my intentions yet?!? Maybe, I should move the creations forward as there needs to be two now ;-)!

ARMCHAIR BUNNY KNITTING! One of my new collage creations...a scene inspired during a conversation some time ago with MRS P. http://craftodyssey.wordpress.com/about-3/ Though with my marathon bout of lap quil making since May, I have only just gotten around to making more cute collages. Mrs. P has the most brilliant gigantic fabric bunny which travels with her as a front seat passenger to and from craft fairs, whilst talking about it she mentioned giving it some giant knitting needles and a pot of tea on a little table - well this is my interpretation on a tiny scale ! :-)

ARMCHAIR BUNNY KNITTING! One of my new collage creations…a scene inspired during a conversation some time ago with MRS P. http://craftodyssey.wordpress.com/about-3/ Mrs. P has constructed the most brilliant gigantic floral fabric bunny which travels with her as a front seat passenger to and from craft fairs, whilst talking about it she mentioned giving it some giant knitting needles and a pot of tea on a little table – well… this is my interpretation… on a tiny scale ! :-)Having finished my latest commission last week, a large lap quilt, designed as both a memory quilt and a Wedding gift for the happy couple to be, My Lady was uuuuber thrilled when she called to collect it..YAY!.. AND, I have permission to do a post about it after the Wedding when the couple have been given their unique personalised gift! So, after the 23rd of August keep a look out for that one! 🙂

Some of you may have seen my little creations of ‘Sheep knitting’ collages before, which include little knitted items on toothpicks, and, as they have proved quite popular, I thought I would down size my craft projects this week (but increase my table mess into the bargain!) to make some new ones, with a few new characters knitting as well! As mentioned above, Mrs. P’s bunny was the inspiration for me to create a couple of inside knitting character scenes. As ever, the couple which I planned…turned into a dozen unique original final framed works of art! 🙂 which are now resting for a little while in my Etsy shop!

Creative Patchwork and AppliquĂ© – You don’t scare us! – Fun framed fabric art collage

You don't scare us!

You don’t scare us!

I did say it had been a busy week and I do have moments where I get the hoover out…..I promise! (just every now and then)

This little collage is based on one of my designs which I first used for a custom cushion cover. It is a great way to use little bits of fabrics, which most people would have already thrown away, which I store for moments like this in colour sorted bags (Its meant to make my life easier, but when I start they all get tipped out together – oh well, a small price to pay for being creative) I just love making something out of nothing!

With a selection of cotton fabrics I created the background panel first, before drawing and cutting pieces to applique by hand to create the scene. These little crows are definitely not put out by this scarecrow – he’s just too cute to be scary with little bits of raffia sticking out of his jacket and his shiny boots and sleeping soundly on his stick, its no wonder the birds have crept in for a better look!

Little extras like adding some tapestry backing offcuts for a fence and simple embroidered flowers and grasses over a frayed ‘grass verge’ piece of material just add to the fun of the little collage, which is framed and ready for a new home. Another unique creation from Caren’s creative canvas and craft! More details on  https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/carenscanvasandcraft

There is no end to those little bits!!!!!!!!!! I try and use them but they are still there, only now, smaller!!!!!!!!

Using up those little bits!

Using up those little bits!

I really do seem to be in sewing overdrive at the moment I am trying to recycle little bits and bobs that many others would have thrown away when they were at least double the size. I really do hoard, though you never know when something might come in handy for a future project (well that’s my excuse) These little wall pictures have been created from tiny left over pieces of felt and hand sewn onto fragments of tapestry backing I had ”lying” about in one of my many ‘save and see’ boxes. I came across a couple of salvaged wooden frames in another ‘save and see’ bag whilst ”””’TIDYING UP”””” Oh My! The tidying up went right out of the window I am now somewhere underneath the most humongous pile of felt offcuts at the moment – even I am feeling the urge to get the hoover tools and suck the mess off the conservatory table, goodness knows what my husband thinks when he comes home each night from work – Thankfully he never says anything about the state of ”’MY work space”’

One day I might have a clear table and empty ‘save and see’ boxes but I won’t hold my breath!

Below are the other colour variations to this theme

Handmade Patchwork, Quilted and AppliquĂ©d with ”Gingerbread Guys” Tote/Bag(s) – (Times 2!!!)

Sweet Gingerbread Guys

Sweet Gingerbread Guys

Some of you may have seen my last post when I was busily creating my version of seasonal greetings cards, some of which included cards with Felt Gingerbread Guys on. Since then I seem to have caught some kind of gingerbread craze and needed to get this out of my system so I could move on with other creating both for my Etsy shop and the upcoming craft event I will be doing – Santa’s Christmas Cracker at the Greenmount United Reformed Church on the 30th November. So, to achieve this, I decided to make a handmade patchwork bag and applique on a couple of gingerbread guys to use the last of my felt of that colour and that would be that ….I thought!

But no…….decisions, decisions….Hmmmm… I couldn’t make up my mind which background cotton to use for the bag! After cutting out the little guys ready to sew on the  centre panel I did a few ”dry runs” with different fabrics until I narrowed it down to two contenders, a navy print and a light brown/beige print. But still I couldn’t quite decide. So off I went rummaging in the felt box and lo and behold (because I had promised myself I will not go and buy any more felt in this colour until after Christmas – as that would make this gingerbread craze continue I am sure) I found a slightly different shade that would still pass for some more of the little guys….so there I was cutting out even more… the final decisions was made I would make two bags/totes, one of each colour.

After sewing the felt shapes to the cream cotton centre panel I added little beads for eyes and little buttons to decorate them, as always I love to use and recycle old buttons so also decided to hand sew a grass border beneath their feet with more colourful buttons to give the impression of flowers between them. After much constructing I was then ready to hand quilt around the little guys to ‘raise their profile’ a little and then also over the entire bag/tote. Inside I added one of my multi-pockets,one with a zip, and then a magnetic clasp on the centre flap. There finished……..bag/tote number one!

I took a deep breath….   ;-D …….

and then…..

set about bag/tote number two repeating the same process all over again. They might have the same idea but they are equally very different…AND I am pleased to confess – my gingerbread guy craze is definitely over now … for this years at least!

Below are a couple more pictures of the finished bags/totes

That really was the very last pieces of felt I had in those colours so as not to waste it I made one very very very last gingerbread guy and sewed it onto the last pocket! then I ironed the cream cotton and connected the fabrics to finish 🙂

Now I can finally move on!

'How "mushroom" do you need in a bag?!"

‘How “mushroom” do you need in a bag?!”

This handmade and designed shopping bag was made from green linen and cotton canvas for the main structure. Each little piece of felt has been hand appliquĂ©d to create the overall picture on the front. On the rear of the bag is also a picture of a toadstool/mushroom which I hand embroidered and then stuffed slightly to make it three dimensional. I hand quilted, with a combination of echo and ditch quilting. Inside there is one of my multi-pocket features, a double pocket – one with a zip, and a coordinating lining of green gingham. Finally I finished off the bag with some colourful old buttons!

I reckon there is as “mushroom” as you need in this bag for a good shopping trip!!!
