Puppy Love 🙂

A couple more new Peg / Clothes Pin Bag designs! After eight in a week – All lovingly handmade and designed to add a little fun to Wash Days – it’s time to move to a new project…..Tackling one of my huge bags of tiny off cuts and hopefully making it into a very colourful creation…may just need a step ladder to reach the top of the pile ;-/ ……….

frogs pb (2)

Bernard and Betty Bullfrog…for a bit of amusement, I decided to leave the ‘mouth’ as a loose movable piece of thread (secured soundly at both ends though) …so you’ll never know what little face they will make when the wind blows 😉

After the last four posts of questing to use every scrap I had left of the same fabrics, I put the last bits into some semblance of order on my chopping board! (In case you’re wondering ’bout t’ title ??!- it’s a bit of Lancashire dialect thrown in 😉 Must be one of those days!)

Anyways….back to the real matter in hand! What could you or even I do with these meagre little scraps?? (I have a little confession before we go any further….BIG SIGH!!) Thinking I was getting towards the end of everything,,,I suddenly found another scrap length of the blue flowery fabric in my stash ;-/ Aaaargh!! Well, I couldn’t just leave it to reappear in many moons to come, it had to be combined in this ‘end of makes’!! So, instead of it leaving me utterly frustrated, I took it as a positive and decided therefore I could go larger, rather than smaller as anticipated with this next make 😉 BUT, what would it be??….

Well…..This!

brushed cotton tote (3)

A super soft and very vibrant reversible design Hand Quilted Shoulder Bag/Tote!! Even the tiniest of scrap leftover crimson has made a little statement on this design

brushed cotton tote (4)

Of course, being reversible, needs another design! By this stage I am seriously running out of sizeable fabric pieces (apart from the blue flowery fabric! OOO Please take note of the duo button detail hear on the fastening flap – as it failed to be noted in the final image properly)….So, this if the result! (I’m rather happy with it though all tiny bits considered) As you can see, it’s all hand quilted too 😉

brushed cotton tote (1)

Measuring out the ‘new discovery’ of MORE blue flowery fabric meant I had just enough to Fully Line, make a Multi-Pocket, trim the outer bag And make a single shoulder strap – surely reason enough to be happy now?! Showing the two open pockets and the full width zipped pocket – using also some of the lovely wooden flower buttons I acquired to strengthen and stabilise the pocket areas.

A Couple of coordinating buttons to go on the front of the magnetic clasp (not photographed very well I’m afraid due to shine) and the little super soft cotton tote is packaged ready for a new life of shopping and adventures!!

Still a few scrap leftovers in the pile, though much smaller now……Amazing how far a kilo or so of fabric can go!

And…I thought it was a sparrow…!

Just taking a rest from all this courting business!!!

Just taking a rest from all this courting business…and, of course, checking out your productivity!!!

I do believe you are spying on me..! A beautiful little Dunnock, and it’s mate, has taken up residence in our garden! I am blown away to discover a breed of bird I had never heard of before, and also, that they have chosen to use our garden as a mating/playground! I feel exhausted just watching their courtship rituals and dances!!

At first, I thought it was a sparrow, though it’s behaviour is completely different and it’s certainly not shy about sharing its fun!!!

As I stitched merrily away on my latest creation, I was, time and again distracted by a pair of flitting birds doing the most twitchy dance on a couple of our garden chairs, right outside my workspace! The chairs are positioned so as not to let our dog keep nosying at our neighbours whilst the fence panel is down due to their renovations. The first couple of sightings led me to think we had a couple of sparrows, but, after their continued antics around the garden, I knew they must be another type of bird! In comparison, sparrows are quite sedate, I'd never seen such a courtship display....to find out more about the why's and wherefores.... http://www.birdguides.com/webzine/article.asp?a=1047

A brief moment of catching their breath!!           As I stitched merrily away on my latest creation, I was, time and again, distracted by a pair of flitting birds doing the most twitchy little dance on a couple of our garden chairs, right outside my workspace! The first couple of sightings led me to think we had a couple of sparrows, but, after their continued antics around the garden, I knew they must be another type of bird! So off I went to investigate my poor photography! (Pics taken through  the windows of my conservatory)

I believe this to be the male of the species...purely because of the other one dipping and tipping it's tail so much for courtship...but, He does seem to be interested quite a lot on what I'm making too!!!

I’m looking forward to seeing their imminent offspring as well in a few more weeks!

Stonehenge - done my way!

”…..Sometimes…..’ A poem  by ME!

Caren Taylor copyright 2014 (for both picture image and poem)

‘…..Sometimes…..’

Sometimes we need something ???

but, don’t know what it is…?

Sometimes we want something ???

but don’t know how to get it…?

Sometimes we feel something ???

but don’t know how to respond…?

Sometimes….. things just happen

And…It’s the best feeling in the World..! 🙂

—————————-CAREN TAYLOR 2014 (C)

One day…I knew I needed to paint another mural, but though I knew what I wanted, and, I had a feeling of what it should be, it just wasn’t becoming how I envisaged… in fact it was about a million miles away from making me happy! Then…a Eureka moment! Life is all about change…! So, scrap the first plan!!! Pensively, drawn from one situation to another and seeing things from two different perspectives within my head, there was only one realistic outcome to achieve my aim, I based my creative crowning glory on a Constable! An atmospheric artistic arrangement in my own colours of His ‘Stonehenge’! Painted ferociously with everyday emulsion paint in a matter of hours…when you know something is right…… go for it!!! Was I a Druid in a past life?!?…Maybe?!? Am I happy with the outcome?!? YES!!! I can stand anywhere and look into the perspective of the picture to give me perspective on life, I can sit and wonder in the forefront of my thoughts, or I can delve back and take a deeper moment of thought of what things could or should have been…! Constable’s reasons for painting his picture were his… My mural makes me muse over matters and moments of my life…for ME!

Stonehenge Mural – done my way! But, inspired by Constable!

A simple emulsion painting (using only tester pots and cheap decorating paintbrushes))  which has brightened my days for many years now – I cease to tire of it 🙂 Oh! and I also built a mini Stonehenge at the bottom of our garden, using old stone paving edge stones I dug up – a post for another time, maybe!!!

On many of my posts I have photographed my craft items on our large sofa in our back living- room, which is directly below my huge mural of my beloved Stonehenge. Our back room leads directly through to my painting/drawing/crafting workspace in the conservatory…as a south facing room, it is perfect to work in, maybe for two or three days a year!!!, making for one giant place to work and create! On some of my crafty posts, a snippet or two of the photos, may have included bits of the painting, which was unknown to the viewer …so I am now unveiling what sits above!

For whatever reason…I have been drawn to Stonehenge for years, and, was fortunate to have visited the site…on a surprise trip! – which made me doubly sure.. I must have been some kind of Druid in a past life ;-/! (for the fulfilment if being there, was just indescribable)  – it was the best thing I could ever have wished for and experienced! I have much to thank my Dearest one for, because, the experience, and, even though he didn’t understand my drive to be there… he still took me 🙂

After doing many murals both for my own children in their bedrooms as they grew up and for friend’s, and, sometimes even for their children too, over the years, I suddenly felt the urge to create one for myself!!! Not really knowing what else to add to the unveiling of my wall…I thought I would stick a poem underneath, which also seems a little disjointed from reason too! So they make a perfect coupling :-)!

One amazing purely random fact I want to share………t I have a mirror centrally placed directly opposite the painting, and, if the sun hits the mirror on the summer solstice, which it has done a couple of time over the years, it lights up My Stonehenge in the most amazing way, taking a beam of light through to the back of the painting and through the two furthest stones!

PS. Having first been an untitled poem by myself, I was spurred on by the lovely Mrs. P. to give it one…so, after much deliberation……….and then some more……….I came up with the apt new title of, ‘…..Sometimes…..’ 🙂

'Shifting Scenes'

Shifting Scenes in My ”Forgotten Dreams of Crimson”

This play around doodle was done whilst scribbling in another of those ‘bored moments’ of “I don’t know what I want to do today?!” Rather than use black and white, as I have done in some of my other abstracts in this section. I wanted to see how I would feel about one in colour? To be honest, I still don’t know, I think I prefer the black and whites. Though I do like looking around the whole image and still finding things I don’t remember drawing. When I do one of these abstracts it is never planned and I restrict myself from holding the picture at arms length until I’ve finished. That way I think I get to explore it as much as others would on first seeing it. Whilst the picture is just made up of random shapes shaded, it is a voyage of discovery in finding little figure type people within the shapes. Simply, by the right hand bottom corner, having a little perspective, it made me think about the theatre and moving background scenes. Hence, the thoughts before the title!
