Meerkat pb (1)

Too Cute! ‘A Meerkat moment’….Even I have fallen in love with this little Posh Peg Pouch…. 😀

Even if I sewed for ”26” hours per day for the next 92 years…I would never be able to use up all the fabrics I have accumulated (plus, of course, I always need to buy more ~for new little projects when I don’t have the right ‘stuff’)Having some larger pieces than others, sometimes it is a case of ‘patch-working’ pieces together, as in this fully lined unique little peg bag. The colours were just perfect for the little project, but, the fabric was just too short one way, so, I machine stitched  the little extra needed to create the full lining in readiness for these ‘sooooooooper’ cute little felt applique ‘Meerkats’. All the pieces have been hand drawn (as ever) then, cut and hand stitched into place creating a very unique novelty peg bag. Adding a few little buttons for ”flowers” completes this design…..Of course I can never stop at just one new design ….so,

cheeky monkeys pb (2)

A ”cheeky monkey” peg bag (with the cool new painted wooden hangers I recently bought for these new projects) Just…who has a ”cheeky monkey” peg bag?? ~ Exactly 😉 One of a kind designs!

Little pups peg bag (2)

Getting carried away by cuteness…after being recently commissioned to make a little peg bag with a dog design for a lady in Oz, of her own little ‘Furbaby’ I decided I should add a little canine creation to my line of unique peg bags, so here is the ”little pups” Posh peg pouch for 2016 🙂

More cute quirky designs in progress!! 😉

From scraps to sophistication.!!!... Khaki reversible design tote bag and matching cosmetic purse set

From scraps to sophistication.!!!… Fully lined Khaki reversible design tote bag and matching cosmetic purse set. Those little squares have become tiny framed works of abstract art within the surrounding fabric. Why you may ask, has this become a set, rather than just a tote bag??? Well… if truth be told, I got so excited by the colours and and how nice the little squares looked, I completely forgot about the large crazy piece I had made  ;-D LOL.

Having made the front into something of a tryptic design, I picked up my remaining (at that point) little crazy patchwork square for the reverse of the khaki tote surrounding that also at different angles until I had them the same size.....only then did I remember the centre piece I had intended to use...ooops!!!

So, by happy accident and then by design another little creation came into being ;-) - a matching make up bag/cosmetic purse - also reversible!

So, by happy accident and then by design another little creation came into being 😉 – a matching make up bag/cosmetic purse – also reversible – Fully lined and with a coordinating zip

Next for the khaki multi pocket, I just had to make one more tiny crazy square to complete the look...a couple of coordinating shoulder straps and a magnetic clast and last but not least...one oth the three beautiful metal buttons, which I have been keeping back for something rather special, now was the perfect time to use one, and, it matches perfectly!!

Next for the khaki multi pocket, I just had to make one more tiny crazy square to complete the look…a good many hours of hand quilting ensued…then, a  couple of coordinating shoulder straps, a magnetic clasp and last but not least…one of the three beautiful metal buttons which I have been keeping back for something rather special, now was that time to use one as a feature on the centre flap, and, it matches perfectly!!

Carried away by the moment …I completely forgot to use the large centre piece I had intended…ooops ;-/ seriously, what is all this fabric doing to me???? All was not lost as it became it’s own unique creation in the end as well!!

A beautiful Blue buttoned bag!
AND…just as beautiful on the back too!!

Some people may wonder the point of chopping up bits of material…just to sew them back together again??! Here’s why I enjoy it so much!! Not to mention the fact that I delved into more of my button collection for this one as well…Oooo HAPPY DAYS !!!!!  😀  !!

Not content to make just one side pretty…I did the reverse in the same design too – oh, and then, a lovingly handmade interior pocket as well! Why not look good from every angle??

Just in case you think it's the front again...check out the buttons...a couple are slightly different!

Just in case you think it’s the front again…check out the buttons…a couple are slightly different…all added to the hand stem stitched       lines to give a little flower border effect!

All my totes are fully lined, this one being no different, though a little extra time and effort was spent making an interior patchwork multi pocket and following the theme of the tote bag, I added a few extra little buttons flowers as well - all looking very pretty against the printed blue and white cotton lining! All in all, I reckon this is a brilliant, navy, blues and white 'must have' Summer accessory ;-)

Buttons! Buttons!! AND, more Buttons!!! Routing around my vast collection has kept me quiet of late…now you know why 🙂 Creating little buttoned wonders! Sheer Bliss!!! To anyone, who shares the same passion as me for buttons, they will definitely understand! I’m sure the cost of the buttons far outweighs its sale value should they be carefully removed, even melted down, LOL!…though the pleasure of making them can’t ever have a true price tag! 😉

Making it special inside and out! A little rich red cotton fabric to line the oval wooden box! Sets thing off perfectly, I think

I’m sure if past things are to go by, it will be wonderful 🙂 What is special tomorrow for me?…Well, it’s my five years of extra life…………. five years since I had a heart attack at the age of 43 (not over weight, no cholesterol, just hereditary, I’m led to understand) …..Making and creating, as well as gaining many new friends here on WordPress has given/kept me ticking along, for which I am so thankful 🙂 But, when I wake tomorrow, the next tomorrow will be one of the proudest days of my life, our daughter will officially graduate as Dr. Jen! ''Show and Tell'' This is one of the finished commissioned Lap Quilts which I promised I would show as soon as it arrived at its new home! :-)

”Show and Tell” – 36” x 48”  Elephant Lap Quilt                                                             *NB  I MUST POINT OUT THAT THE CIRCLE ON THE TOP LEFT OF THE QUILT IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE CAMERA FLASH AND NOT A BLEMISH ON THE QUILT! In all my excitement I didn’t notice it until I put this image on WordPress, by then, I had already shipped the quilt!!
This is one of the finished commissioned Lap Quilts which I promised I would show as soon as it arrived at its new home! 🙂

YAY! I am so pleased to be able to share with you all, a post about one of the commissioned custom order lap quilts, which has just been given full seal of approval,  by my lovely, Dear friend, Jackie! 🙂 Jackie has a couple of brilliant sites here on WordPress, which I follow avidly, her photographic work is absolutely stunning and I urge you all to pop over and have a look through her wonderful archives                                http://iamlostinthot.wordpress.com/about/

Jackie’s more recent WordPress site, Fun with Filters, has some amazing artistic effects placed over the original images, this is a link to one of my favourites        http://iamlostinthot2.wordpress.com/2014/05/26/iphone-snap-steampunk-hummingbird-v-2/     though to be honest, all her images are my favourites, it was hard to choose, but I decided on this one! 🙂

Firstly, I want to Thank Jackie immensely, for commissioning me to design and make her two (36” x 48”) custom order quilts! Not only that, but with trusting me completely, with all the design ideas, fabrics and colours, she really was in the dark from placing the order to seeing the final finished product, in both cases!

Jackie,  asked me to make a lap quilt for her cherished, two year old granddaughter with ‘Elephants’ as the theme and one for herself, with full free reign!!! Wow! I was sooo excited and a little scared too, what if she didn’t like them? But, thankfully, Jackie absolutely loved them both when they arrived in the US yesterday! 🙂  In fact, I have taken this ‘quote’ directly from her email,

”They look even better than they did in the pictures – your work is superb!!!”

I was very very happy, as you can see, 🙂 🙂 :-)!!! Though, to be fair, my photography does leave a lot to be desired!

It was a fantastic opportunity for me and I loved every minute, from the first pencil sketch design to buying whatever palette of colours I chose, making all the double layered,  ‘turned out’, applique pieces,  right through to the very last quilting stitch!

Thank You so much again Jackie, for giving me the creative craft challenge 🙂

YAY!!!  I have just received another commission custom order, after my client saw your two designs! – my portfolio of lap quilt designs is set for an increase, again – this time as a Wedding gift!  🙂

”Doorstop Dumpy” – Bunny Rabbit – Another of my creative ”Dumpy Doorstops”

Pink cotton canvas gingham bunny ''Doorstop Dumpy''

Pink cotton canvas gingham bunny ”Doorstop Dumpy”

Ok, I know I said no more bunnies for a while, but that was last week, and this little (or rather large in fact) bunny creation was eating away at my brain cells, desperate to be created. So, as I had just enough of this pretty gingham fabric left, I thought it perfect to give over to a bunny doorstop. I had to be so careful as to mark out my pattern precisely as I had literally no room for error, in fact the tiny pieces left wouldn’t have made bunting for a mouse, they were minuscule!

For a contrast to the ears and arms I used some white satin fabric, making it really silky and soft. With the help of covered pipe cleaners inserted in each ear, the new owner can change the position from alert bunny to floppy bunny, while it holds its arms open to great you at the foot of a door (So cute you might just have to pick it up every now and again for a cuddle!) With some pieces of lace trim and some matching poly-cotton pink check material I created a little shawl and a padded little bonnet, tied on with some matching ribbon. A few little ribbon roses were stitched on to decorate and finally a few buttons for the eyes and a perfect pink heart button for its nose.

gingham pink bunny

As I have made this as one of my shippable ”Doorstop Dumpies” it is ready and waiting to ‘hop’ anywhere in the world. The reason it is shippable is that at the moment it has no weighting element inside, to keep shipping costs to as little as possible. The provision of making a zipped base with a removable cotton zipped bag inside means the new owner can simply unzip, remove the bag, and fill with approximately 5/6 lbs     (2/3 k) of grit stone/sand or similar weighting quite easily and they have a perfectly unique doorstop dumpy. This is a one off opportunity as I never make two things the same and as they are from my very own pattern which I created they are a one time wonder so hop to it as for a limited time it comes with free worldwide shipping, perfect to surprise someone in time for Easter, then practical for many years to come!

Its another bunny!

Its another bunny! From the front and then the rear…

Then another.........

Then another………

DSCF6512Okay, this is maybe getting a bit weird now, even for me. Its no wonder my children call me ”Crazy Woman!’ And, they are used to my over indulgence on a theme! If you haven’t caught my last couple of posts, you will probably be thankful, for those who have, sorry, promise no more bunnies:-/ I am just going to put the rest of my bunny creations from last week below…and promise no more bunnies for a while! Though I was thinking of making a ”Doorstop Dumpy” bunny…hmm!

But at least I have gone some way to preparing for Easter and the mad bunny rush! They are everywhere, looking at me from inside their little plastic covers…I hope they get new homes soon, I seem to be overrun with them. Good job they are all female, well nearly all, Mr Bunny is definitely fastened in tight with his Mrs bunny and she doesn’t look ”in the right mood”!!!… if you know what I mean?

As a bit of variation I have also started adding some more original artwork and prints, as well as these hand-crafted items to my Etsy shop: Carens canvas and craft,

https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/carenscanvasandcraft

(…just a little footnote to those who have been asking about more originals..and there will be more in the future to come!)

(Last of the bunnies – these are giants in comparison to the others!)

Handmade bunnies

Handmade bunnies

”That’s all for now folks!” I’m off routing in my buttons again, I just had a new idea….!

Handmade and designed bags – Bunnies on a bag/tote

Small pink gingham bunny tote/bag

Small pink gingham bunny tote/bag

Having got full swing into bunnies, my next thought was how about that lovely piece of pink gingham I bought recently it would be perfect for a little tote/bag. So, rather than patchwork I decided on appliquéing some lovely bright pink bunnies I cut from felt with a little heart above them. After I had stitched them in place I hand quilted over the whole piece and then routed around in my buttons until I found enough matching ones to stitch around the heart. That really set it off nicely. Not content with just one lot of bunnies I decided the back of the tote/bag deserved a little design too. So again I drew out a sketch of a bunny cut it out of some white felt this time and stitched it in place. Surely if the front could have buttons, why not the back?! So… back to the button tins! This time I hand stitched a little grass border and added some ‘button flowers’, then to finish off gave the bunny a giant felt flower and a pink pompom tail

Most would think okay, enough bunnies…! but as I was making one of my special multi-pockets for the inside of the tote/bag I though ”Oh, Why not!” so I added a final little pink and white bunny in there too. Adding little beads for eyes and stitching little cute noses on them all. I finished the quilting on the reverse of the bag, made the little handles and finished with a magnetic clasp.

Yay! One perfect pink bunny bag. And guess what? Its already ‘hopping’ its way to its new owner! 🙂

Below are some more views of the pink bunny tote/bag
