If you saw the last post, you’ll see it has moved on slightly, a bit of stem stitch embroidery, lots of blanket stitching for the hand applique, some simple hand quilting and a green border were added before the cream cotton envelope backing to finally complete!
Such a cute feature cushion cover….looking at the rest of the pre-printed squares still left, there could be a couple more in the future!! 😉 

Finally finished this little feature cushion at 9.0 am this morning to allow for the rest of my busy day….. 🙂

Trying to keep up with WordPress over the last couple of weeks has been hard. I have been SEW busy!!! As a result, I haven’t been able to visit blogs I follow quite as often as I would have liked, for which I apologise.

Over the last weeks, I have been creating new picture designs for my unique posh peg bags/pouches, cutting a mountain of little pieces of felt and hand-stitching them in place. Each and every one I have made (and will make in the future) is different – no two will ever be the same, making them all the more special for the purchasers.

Without even having had time to upload them before now here on WordPress, and only a day up on my Etsy shop, some are already winging their way to washing lines across the UK. It really is a case of ‘‘If you like the one you see – get it quick!’‘ As it won’t ever be reproduced exactly the same again.

It really is peg bag season, a couple of days of warmer winds and some sun seems to have gotten the whole world looking for peg bags! And, I’m very proud of my designer (fully lined and with a little wooden hanger) peg bags and their handmade quality. So well made and unique, they are made to last for you for years (As long as your jealous neighbour doesn’t take a shine to it and sneakily remove it from your line!) My fingers are down to the last layer of skin almost, but I love making them, I just don’t ever want to seem to stop (but that’s me all over – why stop at one?)…as you will see below 🙂

Bags – Handmade Patchwork and Embroidered – Shopping Bag

‘Handmade patchwork shopping bag’

Setting myself a challenge, I went shopping for fabric, on a cheer myself up day.  Above are the seven cotton decisions I made (NOT counting the plain cream, which I already had) Careful consideration was put into them all being compatible, but also contrasting. Choosing the colours was only part of the challenge to myself. I wanted to see just how far, and how many functional/decorative items I could make with just half a metre of each fabric. (So far I have made two shopping bags, both different in size and design and two cushion covers both different again of course! But carrying on the button flower theme with them all.) They will be posted another time. There are still some fabric scraps left  which I am sure will reappear again, to be used in future projects!!

The flower button, patchwork and quilted shopping bag above was the first I completed from my set of seven fabrics challenge. After piecing it all together, I embroidered a border in stem stitch all across the centre panel and then hand sewed old buttons to make it look like a colourful flower border. As I had made the bag in one continuous width, there is only one side seam. Inside I gave the bag a multi pocket, including one with zip and added a magnetic clasp to a small over flap to secure, and finally long straps, either to wear diagonally or on the shoulder. Patchwork made stylish, colourful, fun, functional and unique.

Posh Peg Pouches!

This idea came about after another bored moment. I sketched some simple designs for what could be on a washing line, other than just clothes. After lots of scribbling, and many little picture scenes I set about cutting all the little pieces for my peg bag pictures out of felt. I then hand appliquéd all the small bits to form little garden scenes with a washing line. As you can see there are some with birds on the line, others with soft toys, Squirrels, little lady and little pieces of clothing.  Another fun touch was adding tiny little craft pegs to the line and giving the sense of a lawn and flowers below by stitching in green embroidery silk and sewing on old buttons as flowers. Finally,  I inserted a little coat hanger. See below for other designer ‘Posh Peg Pouches’!
