A glimpse into my garden

Forget me not 16.5.15 - OH I WON'T DON'T YOU WORRY!! - This little chap used to reside on our dining room fireplace hearth, which is actually really a coping stone, reclaimed by my Dearest, when we renovated our back room originally, with a Stonehenge theme! Though we still have our massive mural of Stonehenge, it has now become a more cosy space, and so, my poor little men...have now become 'garden friends instead! But, I do go out and visit them almost everyday. Having been so busy, over the past week or so, I had overlooked what was happening outside!! The weather had been wonderful, but I have been beavering away creating little ''outfits'' for my daughter's sea grass baskets - which she wanted cladding both inside and out! She commissioned me (FREE of charge of course - after all she is my daughter!) to cover six large baskets she had bought. So off I went into a little quandary, and created a pattern - more about that another time..! Anyways...back to my garden!

A little patch of loveliness !

A little patch of loveliness !

Can anyone else see ' TOM' spelt out in the flowers???????

Can anyone else see ‘ TOM’ spelt out in the flowers??????? Amazing!

Sometimes we get so wound up in what we are doing we forget to look in our back yard! Nature is so busy being beautiful – and yet it doesn’t scream about it!! – It’s just there waiting to be quietly discovered!  A new voyage of discovery everyday – if you have time!!

"On a Ledge Series" - 'Cactus and Friend'

“On a Ledge Series” – ‘Cactus and Friend’

Bored and uninspired one day, I stood in my kitchen wondering what I could draw? Whilst wondering I absent mindedly started tidying and rearranging things on the ledge. I’m not one for nice pot ornaments, rather have slightly wacky or weird decorative things around! So, as I now had a disarrayed pile of things I had moved and a clean window ledge – The idea struck me. I could use it as a little staging area for a series of still life pictures!!!

The idea for “On a Ledge Series” was born.  Above is one – ‘Cactus and Friend’. A still life done in  colourful pastel.

I was really pleased with this pastel drawing not just the perspective but the fantastic shadows and brightness of the day. If only there were more days like that!

' Hidden Harwood '

‘ Hidden Harwood ‘

This would seem to be a rather strange subject to want to paint, a set of steps that seem to lead to nowhere. However, I found the aspect of the light and shadows very appealing. It was a painting which took no more than three hours to complete, as it just seemed to work straight away. The whole image just seems to draw you in, to wonder where it goes? At exhibitions, it certainly got the locals talking about where it was in Harwood. A surprising amount of people did actually know too!

Tyrolean Stream

I was having one of those days where I didn’t know what I wanted to paint. So, I put my brain in gear with my paintbrush –  I just let my imagination take me to the place you see above. I suppose I created a scene of where I wanted to be. Sometimes letting your imagination loose , shows you what you really want! I created my thoughts and put them on canvas for the world to enjoy too!

Edgworth Overspill

With a beautiful autumn scene captured on camera, I decided to take a new approach. Instead of using my favoured mediums of oil paint or pastel, I dug out of the cupboard a set of coloured inks. Wow! I was really happy with the vibrant landscape creation.

Along the lane

Along the lane

Sometimes, we just carry on with our business and miss out on the scene around us, just because it is too familiar to everyday life. On a crisp and bright autumn day, I captured this beautiful scene, whilst going ‘along the lane’ to where my Mum lives. The whole image was just perfect to create this pastel drawing. Intense colours, reflective fishing lodge, ducks gently gliding on the pond and all framed by the almost bare trees.

Of the series of Oil paintings I did of Entwistle Reservoir in Lancashire, this has always been my favourite. When I have had exhibitions in Bolton there are always many people who come up to me and say, “I know exactly where that bend is, I’ve walked it many times!” Who would have thought a simple bend would be so distinctive?! Another reason this is my favourite, is how the light and shadows played out giving the whole picture quite a realistic feel.
