About me

My name is Caren Taylor. I am a married mother of two first, but I am now intending to grapple my way into the world of being self employed for the first time ever. After giving up work 25 years ago to be a housewife and mother to two now successful adults, I intend to show the world all my self taught skills. Artwork and crafts have been my hobbies for many years now, from animal/people portraits to landscapes, still life and experimentation in abstract works. About two and a half years ago I started designing my own patterns and developing ideas more in the craft side of creativity.

I hope you enjoy exploring and sharing my site with your friends.

Thank you for browsing.

Caren Taylor.

  1. Great site Caren. You do beautiful art.

    • Thank you so much.
I feel very honoured that People are dropping by to keep up with my new site. Having a blog is all very new to me, and I greatly appreciate your comment. I have many more posts to come and I’m currently working on a series of twelve paintings – They are quite a jump from my norm. Which I’m really excited by-! They are very colourful character illustrations More about those in the future!!!

  2. Thank You!
I have my fingers crossed it will go well.

    • That’s really kind of You iarxiv Thank you so much!
With only six weeks of blogging experience I am very honoured for the nomination. I will go and check it out 🙂 !!!

      Thanks again Caren.

  5. Thanks so much for visiting my blog and liking my photos! I appreciate it very much. I’ve enjoyed looking at your artwork and crafts and look forward to following your work! 😀

  6. They’re so cute!

  7. Yes, I am your biggest fan! I am not such a bad biggest fan – although my natural modesty keeps me from bragging about myself! You could do worse.

A fan is always a bit obsessive – but that can be forgiven! I love the beauty of your simple work (I don’t mean simple-minded – just nice simple craft-personship).

I get happy when I see your work. Should I tone it down?

I am just a big fan!
    My Best,
    Elephant

  8. Caren: Thank you so much for all your recent “likes” on http://thepoetandtheflea.wordpress.com! It’s wonderful to know how much you’re enjoying my work! 😀 Best regards, G. E.

  9. AnElephantCant think of anything clever to say
    This happens time after time
But he wants you to know
That he likes you and so
He says hello with this silly rhyme

    • Thank You anelephantcant for stopping and writing me a little rhyme
Looking at my page, checking me out and taking the time
Admirers are always nice to have, I’d like to say
So writing this back to you in a flattered way 🙂

      • AnElephantCant argue with Caren
It is so nice when someone writes a wee verse
        But his imagination
        Faces deterioration
And his rhymes sadly get worse and worse

  10. I disagree about your rhymes being worse, its true
I love to read them when you post them , I really do
An elephant cant help making brain cells work hard
Each and every one deserves to be in a card
I love having new acquaintances – a remote connection
looking forward to reading many more with great affection 🙂

  12. I have enjoyed your blog, and your crafting skills, good for you to set upon this new journey of becoming self sustaining. The blogging is new to me too, started in February of this year, and like you am finding my way into a new adventure of getting it out there. Ill follow you and keep in touch. Nice blogging!

    • Thank you so much for your lovely comments. Its always nice to have another follower especially like minded people. I loved your story about the buttons. One of my earliest childhood memories is routing through my grandma’s button tins. To this day I have literally accumulated thousands, reusing them in my crafts, though as I choose them I always wonder what life they had before they embark into the new life I choose for them?! I have been having a busy time of late and hope to catch up more with my blogging and posting new pages soon.
      Caren.

  16. Hi Caren,
I’ve nominated you for the Sunshine Award 🙂
I’ve written a bit about you here http://iarxiv.com/2014/02/14/awards-for-fellow-bloggers/ Perhaps it’ll help you find more loving homes for your Dumpies and pillowcases 🙂
If you accept the award, officially the rules say that you should put the little logo pic on your website, write a post accepting it, and nominate some specific number of other fellow bloggers. I chose just to nominate one person per award because it makes the award more special 🙂 But it’s up to you.

    Byee!

  19. Heaps of thanks for stopping by www/50figment.wordpress.com. You could always embrace your arachnid, and leave about a few portraits that might attract it so that you can ultimately send it back to play outdoors.

    • LOL I am dearly hoping it has gathered all its legs together and vacated already, having not seen it for quite some time now…though if I need anything from the scary corner, I will for sure be sending my Dearest to get it…just in case! 😉

Hi I was wondering if the framed patchwork piece had a glass in front

I have an appliquéd similar piece from Peru of Noah’s arc and I want to frame it….. But somehow adding a glass in front would lose the uniqueness of the detailed appliqués

    • Hi Christine, Thanks for your enquiry 🙂
I’m not sure which of my particular collages you are referring to, but, if I have mentioned it as framed then, Yes there is glass! Personally, I don’t think it detracts at all, in fact, having glass (and a mount to keep fabric and glass separated) can indeed protect applique, but of course it is all down to personal taste, as to how you display your fabric art.

  21. Wonderful About-me page!

  22. Caren Hi!! I noticed you on Phenny’s blog and I just HAD to sign up to follow you………if you have noticed my name by now, you see why! So nice to meet you!!!!!
    DakotasDen

    • Hi Caren…nice to meet you too ;-)!!! Looks like we have two things in common straight away ~ love of Dogs and of course our name!! Thanks for popping over 😉 Isn’t Da Phenny the cutest pup ever…such a beautiful scrumple face 😀
Caren in the UK with a ‘C’ isn’t so wildly known (not sure how so in the US??) but, I should thanks my mum for the ‘uniqueness’…and for the lifelong task of having to correct my name spelling LOL
