Never having been able to sew a completely straight line on a sewing machine has benefits!!! I think I have found my niche in machining life 😉 YAY!!!! My ‘Skewed’ Place Mat Sets have been sooooooo therapeutic to make over the past few weeks ~ helping take my mind off some major stresses :-)……Not to mention…at last, getting to grips with some of my Daughter’s lovely gifted to me fabrics – Double bonus – new makes without new expenses 😀
Quite a few of you will already know, that, I get an idea and run around with it until it wears me out…usually it doesn’t take long, maybe one or two (OK…maybe five or six if I’m being honest LOL…) of something, then I’m over it and move on. Though, making these little place mat sets with a ‘skewed’ design has, ironically, been a mind bending saviour! No thought, no measuring, just slash and gash some varying fabric widths and off you go…round and round (should really say..square and square!) ..add wadding, quilt, trim to size and bind – voilà!

This set of four was done to use up almost all the last of these fabrics, after the eight piece set sold overnight!

I love this colour way! We should all eat with more greens -LOL, even if that means the greens are under the plate!!!!!! I should search out some oranges and brown fabrics…as it so reminds me of the seventies somehow??!..my mum did have some eccentric wallpaper back in those days ;-/

Delving into my Daughter’s gifted fabrics once more, with the addition of a little beige gingham fabric from my own stash, gave rise to another set which can be used all year round – and – equally as a Christmas Dining set too! 🙂 Great gift ideas if you are looking for something different and unique!

Just to let you know I do live in the normal ‘un-skewed’ world at times…..I concentrated very hard to sew straight lines with some more of my daughter’s fabrics and printed squares to make a lovely set for kitchen or dining table use 🙂
OMGoodness you have been busy !!!! these sets are BRILLIANT !!! it’s amazing how a different colour-way gives a completely new feel to each set, I see you have put your daughters fabric to fantastic use 🙂
Busier than a whole hive of bees 😉 I’m so pleased that you like them!
Peppy has been most helpful in treading all my snipped threads throughout the house as I’ve been beavering away…to the point when I visited the front room yesterday and wondered if we had had a new multi-coloured carpet fitted?!? ;-/
My lovely daughter was so kind to donate her fabric stash and is over the moon I have actually gotten around to using it at last.
I have one more ‘skew whiff’ creation to unveil very soon…it promises to be the most softest, cuddliest and possibly the most colourful quilt I have made so far 🙂
LOL Your front room sounds akin to my living room rug …whereas mine is covered in yarn clippings,
I can’t wait to see the quilt you mentioned – just a thought – do you ‘skew whiff’ creations look straight when you have partaken of your bi-monthly thimbleful of stout ???
…that’s a very good question ;-D ??? I think I should bring forward the bimonthly date (just filling my thimble as I type..) and see if things square up perfectly LOL
Cheers 🙂
…to be honest…and even though it is cause for celebration, being Mothering Sunday and all..A Very Happy Mother’s Day to you too by the way :-D..!!!…I’m not sure a thimbleful of Stout stuff in an afternoon is wise….HIC! (opps, Pardon me;-)) but things do look a bit different, they seem to have ‘squiffed’ of now in the other direction LOL
Hahahahahaha a repose on the chaise is most definitely in order, you must be feeling sea sick with all the squiffing about.
Hope you had a terrific Mothers Day and don’t forget if perchance you have a hangover on the morrow tis pronounced migraine 🙂
A lovely Mother’s day – Thank You :-)! Pleased to report no morning migraine materialised …LOL
So your telling me a thimbleful of stout has no effect on you any -more ???
I’m not sure if I ought to be impressed or troubled LOL
To be fair I do have one of the tiniest thimbles ever..as my fingers are so small…the problem arises if I end up in the stout barrel whilst filling the thimble 😉
the last one is so wonderful for an easter brunch, what a fabulous idea!
I hadn’t thought of them as being associated with any particular seasonal thing…but!!! I think you are right 🙂 looking over it again, with ‘Chucks’, Ducks and Eggs it does have a very strong Easter theme! 🙂
Very much like this series, Caren! Definitely a niche you’ve found in the skewed world 🙂 Not sure which one is my favourite… hmm… I’m thinking the first one probably 🙂
Thanks so much Irida 🙂 they have been very enjoyable to create.
I tried to use up some left over flannel, but…ended up having to buy even more, as I now have a final little ‘skewed’ quilt on the go! More on that very soon !! 🙂
As always, awesome work! 🙂
Thanks so much Jackie 🙂
