‘Poppy duo and pincushion trio’ an Original 14” x 11” Oil painting on canvas panel
Having spent the last couple of days, moving from room to room around the house in order to ”get straight and tidy’ for the family invasion next week – I finally abandoned my mop and bucket and grabbed my paintbrushes for a rest! This little oil painting has been done with the attempt to soften the background almost as if it’s out of focus allowing the main poppies in the foreground to take their place centre stage. I wanted to try and see if I could imitate, somehow, what photographers do by fading out the background and focusing on the main image. To try and do this I have merely blended blobs of colour without any firm shapes graduating the shades back to give a hopefully somewhat diffused perspective and depth to the foliage. Overall it passed a quiet Saturday afternoon, and, I’m happy with the final look and feel of the little still life scene! I must say, my conservatory window ledge is starting to look very colourful as, the now five canvas boards, are lined up to dry 🙂
A Penchant for Poppies! – Original 14” x 11” Oil Painting
You are on a roll! Another lovely painting. We photographers call that fading out bokah. You have achieved what you set out to do very nicely in this painting. 🙂
It sounds like you are going to be busy with family next week – enjoy! 😀
Thank you so much Jackie 🙂 I was a bit hesitant at first that it might look a little weird, but I think, and hope, that it worked quite well?! And, now I know the correct term too 😉 thank you!
I think it will be rather crowded next week when all the families turn up to congratulate and celebrate with Jen and Alex. To be honest, I could probably have saved myself a lot of effort, as there will be so many people in the house, you won’t be able to tell if I cleaned or not 😉 LOL
It sounds like it’s going to be a fun time as well as standing room only. 😀
You’re not wrong there, as the twins will be coming too, with all their paraphernalia, it will look like a sardine tin! 😀
Although crowded I’m sure everyone will have a wonderful time! 😀
It’s something I’m really looking forward to a special day to remember 🙂
Indeed! 🙂
Great work. The out-of-focus effect looks fantastic!
Thank you so much Joanna 😀 ! It’s something I have wanted to try out for a while but didn’t know if I could make it work. I was worried it could look messy, or, even worse, a little strange, but I have had a couple of good comments now which reassures me 😉 I think now I can move forward with some more ideas in the future applying a similar technique
Mrs T, you have done a stunning job, hope family time leaves you with loads of treasured memories,
Thank you so much Mrs. P 🙂 It will be a very special weekend 😀
Take care wi’ stout, I’d hate for yer to show yer sen up 🙂
I’d thought about that, being it an afternoon do an’ all…I think a few quick slurps here and there should see me fine LOL 😉
Just be careful if you are having sherry trifle I don’t want you mixing stout n’ sherry t’wud be a lethal combination
It’s a good job you mentioned that!!!! Mum-in-law is making two trifle contributions and we are hoping for good weather to have a little garden party……I could have unwittingly become a diva, dancing on the deck…..and had a hang over too LOL 😉
Darling it’s never called a hangover …it’s a migraine
Ooops, my mistake…a migraine of course 😉 LOL…you can tell I’m not lucky enough to suffer from the complaint very often ;-/
Haha
Another lovely painting. Glad you found some you time in the middle of getting the house straight.
Thanks so much Bekki, a bit of an experiment, but, I do like the end result! LOL…I seem to have found myself a whole lot more ME time….I started another painting today 😉 I know I will regret this when I am chasing my own tail by Friday to finish all what I want to do in the housework stakes….BUT, Hay Ho 😀
I love an experiment, even when it turns out badly. Never mind the housework, the dust will only reappear next week. I’m also ignoring housework, but because I’m trying to get the garden sorted now my arm’s better and the weather’s dry again.
…as for the dust, my thoughts exactly! 😉 ‘Happy gardening’ – I hope you got lots done today – we have to make the most of the weather, even better than my excuse! 😉
Yes, I like to think of gardening and a self-less act too 😉 Getting there thanks, but it always takes so much longer than you think it will.
