From scraps to sophistication.!!!… Fully lined Khaki reversible design tote bag and matching cosmetic purse set. Those little squares have become tinyย framed works of abstract art within the surrounding fabric. Why you may ask, has this become a set, rather than just a tote bag??? Well… if truth be told, I got so excited by the colours and and how nice the little squares looked, I completely forgot about the large crazy piece I had made ย ;-D LOL.

Having made the front into something of a triptych design, I then picked up my remaining (at that point) little crazy patchwork square for the reverse of the khaki tote surrounding that also at different angles until I had them the same size…..only then did I remember the centre piece I had intended to use…ooops!!!

So, by happy accident and then by design another little creation came into being ๐ – a matching make up bag/cosmetic purse – also reversible – Fully lined and with a coordinating zip

Next for the khaki multi pocket, I just had to make one more tiny crazy square to complete the look…a good many hours of hand quilting ensued…then, a ย couple of coordinating shoulder straps, a magnetic clasp and last but not least…one of the three beautiful metal buttons which I have been keeping back for something rather special, now was that time to use one as a feature on the centre flap, and, it matches perfectly!!
Carried away by the moment …I completely forgot to use the large centre piece I had intended…ooops ;-/ seriously, what is all this fabric doing to me???? All was not lost as it became it’s own unique creation in the end as well!!
What a lovely happy accident. And good to hear I’m not alone in forgetting I’ve already made part of something and making a second or different piece for the same purpose.
LOL :-D….. I think it must happen to the best of us all, at some point or other, getting too carried away in the creative moments ,… though my face must have been a picture when I did realise and called myself ”a Muppet’ ๐
You’re right. I’m a demon for keeping knitting when I should have stopped.
LOL! I know what you mean, we push ourselves just a bit too much and that is usually when things go awry ;-/
A happy accident indeed! More perfect patchworking and quilting, they make a handsome set:)
๐ Thanks so much I really am super pleased with them both… but did call myself a Muppet out loud when I realised I hadn’t incorporated the main feature! Puzzlement and wonder was written all over my face when I lined up the front, back and the crazy oblong was still sitting beside them on the table…Honestly though…it did make me wonder if this is the first sign of dementia ????! LOL
Man Alive, how GORGEOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Khaki has to be THE colour for summer, I thought your citrus creation was stunning but, Mrs T you have out done yourself BRAVO me dear ๐
Thank you so much Mrs P!!! ๐ I’m so pleased with them both they’ve turned out so well and I just love the colours too,!! Now, I just have to put my thinking cap on for the final ‘go green’ set of bits I made…*mental note to self- don’t forget the big piece this time! LOL ๐
I’m don’t have much to add beyond what others have said! It’s a meant to be mistake – I love the cosmetic bag – how brilliant. ๐
Aw thank you so much Jackie ๐ When the realisation struck, I thought, I could make another tote, but really, I didn’t want to split up the crazy pieces I had made, always intending them to be together – now this way they can be! Maybe, it was always meant to be this way as you say – fate – pulling those strings again ๐
