The first, completed, of a planned range of ”GO GREEN” TOTES! A week or so ago my super huge stack of off cuts once again played on my mind!…. how to approach this ever growing stash ;-/ ?? I decided to pick a colour…green and take it from there….

First, tip out the bag and see what I had to work with….???? Hmm some sorting I think! π I eventually set out four colour palettes (one being the completed tote bag) …then, took full advantage of being alone for a few days, and made the most humongous mess you can ever imagine! LOL!!! There were threads the length and breadth of the ground floor, mainly courtesy of Peppy’s paws, even more off cuts smaller than before, but, eventually, four sets of crazy patchwork pieces π

Soooo many hours were spent combining each into workable pieces – it nearly did send me ”crazy” trying to fit them together (shown hereΒ awaiting their next step) but more than worth the effort – and the many reels of cotton – to end up with a totally unique crazy patchwork tote, not to mention the other three lined up, as my next projects!

Trouble is….now I have the smaller off cuts to deal with π I feel a lot of applique Christmas cards are now in order at some point….

Fortunately, as luck would have it, or rather, that I boxed clever and worked into the colour scheme fabric from a couple of larger pieces I had so as to complete the back panel, straps and lining with built in multi-pocket too…see below
Another reason why I keep all my bits and pieces, I think it turned out just fine!! …’sew’ much better than it being in landfill – don’t you think ?? π
….OH NO!!!!! I can hear the blue off cuts starting to get rowdy in the corner, I have something rather exciting planned for them – maybe they know already…??.. and can’t contain themselves……..LOL π
You certainly know how to spend many a happy hour don’t you π I love this latest creation, very spring orientated,
Thank you so much Mrs P! Seasons certainly do seem to influence creations! Having been left in the homestead, Peppy minding (poor darling, no kennels will actually take him any more as he suffers so badly from separation anxiety, plus we couldn’t bear to think ”what if anything happened to him” because he was so upset and anxious, he is an old man now too set in his ways to change or cope) whilst Dearest was summoned by our Jen and her Alex, to reconfigure their bedroom and fit a whole host of custom wardrobes, what else should a crafter do…. LOL??? I had simply the biggest mess I have EVER made and just four tiny sets to show for it !!!! No having to conform to any degree of tidiness ( I almost left my petticoat off as well in this free abandon, as the temperature was rising, but, felt that really was a step too far – even on my own!) I felt quite empowered to let the mess flow unabated, at least until it got to wading level! LOL π
Having had to take a break, due to ”dressing” six large seagrass baskets (in AND out) for Jen’s new wardrobes, I have to crack on now with the other three unfinished set pieces, before the blue bits burst out of their blooming bag!! The blue off cuts were always earmarked as unruly, if you ask me!
See there are benefits to the spouse going AWOL you get to spend quality time with Peppy, the green of cuts get your full attention and you don’t have to clean up on the same day you make a mess
What do you mean you nearly left your petticoat off …..MAN ALIVE have you lost your senses woman the village will abound with gossip !!!! no Dearest & no petticoat in evidence, go now & take to the stout before you have any more immoral thoughts , the stress of the seagrass baskets is most evident, and take it from me don’t give the blue off cuts an inch …they will take a mile
You’re not wrong, I felt like being a uni student, not tidying ;-)!! …shame I missed out on that phase, now I know some of what they enjoy, Hmmmm…wonder when Dearest will have to go away again…?? π
LOL..it just so happens I do have a good vintage bottle tucked up in the hay….perhaps you’re right, and now is a good time to crack it open π it should take my mind of any more risquΓ© thoughts!!!
I will have to be strict with those little blue boys!!!….can’t have them getting the better of me π
I also missed the uni phase …too busy earning a living LOL
Now be firm but fair with your little blue boys, just remember there is more than one way to skin a cat …
You and me both… literally out the school gate for the last time and into a job
…back in our day there didn’t seem the privilege of a prolonged childhood for most of us!
LOL.. those little blue boys won’t know what’s hit them when it’s their turn π which if all goes to plan should be next week – till then, they can have a few more days of cheeky chuckling in the corner π
I didn’t realize your work is so difficult! It’s like designing, sewing and solving a puzzle of 1000 pieces together.
π LOL! I do seem to really challenge myself sometimes! But, if it wasn’t all fun at the end of the day (and hopefully), with some good results I know I wouldn’t put myself through some of the agonies, this little set of shapes was a bit of a conundrum, though I am happy I persevered seeing the end result of the first bag!
I think I need to go back to some less stressful painting creations π
I love the colors and design of this tote! Another winner for sure. I can’t wait to see what the next project is going to be. Hopefully the blue off cuts don’t get too rowdy before you start. π
Aw, thank you so much Jackie, I really appreciate your lovely comments π perhaps you can see what I meant now when I was telling you about them in the email – boy what a mess, but also fun too π
There has been an awful lot of rustling coming from the blue bag all day π but, I must be firm with them, they have to wait their turn!!! LOL π
I can totally see what you mean! If anyone can keep the blue off cuts in line it’s you. Good luck. π
I’ve kept the tiniest scraps with the intention of doing exactly the same – this has inspired me to just get on with it! Very clever and I love the green credentials:)
Thanks so much Sheila π I’m glad it has inspired you, maybe something to do after your fab holiday and finishing all your other lovely WIPs π
