My hydrangea and Lavender posy crayon sketch is the direct result of being terrorised in my workspace by a huge lurking arachnid! I simply refuse to move any storage boxes to gain access to my painting supplies for fear of disturbing it again!!!!, So, instead, I found a cheap tub of children’s crayons, some heavy duty rough cotton artist sheets, grabbed a seam ripper and played instead…. 🙂
My daughter picked these little flowers from our garden as a birthday posy for me which I have since dried, but still keep on my ledge by the kitchen sink, as the colours tone in so well with our duck egg blue kitchen….a colour it acquired from a previous bored moment!!! ;-/
Playing with crayons whilst hiding out from a huge spider which seemingly enjoys playing ‘Hide and seek’ in my workspace!!! It hides…then seeks me out when I least expect it ;-/! I have even taken to wearing rubber gloves before putting my hands into my fabric and storage boxes…just in case OH, and of course tucking everything into my high boots for good measure!!!

Cheap crayon experimental sketch stage one…with equipment !
Also, I found it really useful to have an old artist brush handy to flick off the little bits as I drew…I’d quite forgotten how messy crayons can be! I might have removed the excess from my picture but now the tiny flecks of wax crayon seem to be welded to my glass worktop ;-( There’s my next job…hopefully the scraping and squeaky cleaning won’t disturb the big beastie…..
This is great – I love the textured background too. Can’t believe it’s only done with childrens’ wax crayons…!
Thank you so much 🙂 The textured background did itself really, just rubbing the crayon over the rough profile of the cotton sheet, as you can see I had to work a bit harder to get the wax into the grain to look ”flat” for the petals and then had a bit of fun scraping back to reveal ‘veins’ through the layers of built up colours! To be honest I didn’t think the cheap crayons would be up to much, I only bought them because I wanted a white wax crayon for another project and was quite surprised it came out so well 😉
Saw this and thought of you 😉
Lovely piece of art Mrs T
LOL!!! That’s so ME 🙂 and thank you for your lovely comment too :-))))))))
I’m just wondering what you would do if left with plasticine, Gelfling Grandson & I had the play dough out at the weekend….why he he was under the impression I’d got it out for him to play with I have no idea LOL …I don’t share half as nicely as him
LOL! First crayons…then plasticine, I must try and get some, I’ve not played with that for years 😉 I wonder, is this the start of my aged regression??? I might have that thought to ponder over later, that;s if I remember!!!! whilst partaking in a drop of the good stuff! Its good to know that you allowed Gelfling Grandson at least a meagre amount to entertain himself… you probably informed him that micro creations were the order of the day, no doubt whilst you coveted the rest with a firm arm draped over it ;-/
I see you Spy Cam is in full working order as you describe the scene to perfection, I really appreciate the fact to didn’t comment that I only allowed him to play with a merger piece of black play dough while I retained all the bright cheerful colours for myself 🙂
Gelfling Grandson would be so thankful that you did share even a smidgen!!!! I suppose he was in so much turmoil whether you would or not, I bet he didn’t even mind the drab colour! ;-/ Do be careful, at this rate he will be expecting to share all your things when you set up playtime!!!
I know… would you credit it, when the lego came out he actually thought it was for him to play with …….as if
Its a good job there are people like yourself to let him know how it really is !!! But, Gelfling Grandson does seem to be showing a lot of interest in craft and creativity – maybe on your ‘good days of sharing’ you might even encourage him and he can offer to teach you how to share without squirming so much ;-/ ….or not! LOL
Gelfling Grandson appears to be leaning towards quite an artistic tendency and I have my own theory as to why….Beloved, Beloveds Brother and First Born are all fabulous at drawing, so obviously there may a genetic link, BUT and this is more obvious when I think about it ….I can’t even draw a circle soooo I let Gelfling have ALL the crayons, colouring pencils and paints when ever he wants thus his skills are brought to the fore, so his habit of making the best with what you’ve got is working !!
What great work of art you have created! You are so talented to be able to do that with crayons!! I love the colors and textures. Well done! 🙂
Thank you so much Jackie for your lovely comment. It really was a bit of an experiment, especially as the crayons drew out in different colours than they appeared to be, it did turn into a bit of a game to find the colour I wanted – my scribble sample sheet is almost a work of art too!!!! 😉
I’ll bet it is! Like an abstract painting! 😉
🙂 It is of sorts, but also looks like the work of a crazy woman too ;-/ as I got so frustrated with the crayons looking like each other but all drawing different colours, It must be a very strange manufacturing process to be able to do that, that’s probably why they were so cheap!!! 🙂
That’s amazing. Thank you spider!
Thank you so much Sarah 🙂 I must say if it wasn’t lurking this little creation would probably have never happened, so I should thank it too…maybe just shouting to it rather than looking for it though….. ;-/
😀
Reblogged this on collinaclarke.
Thank you so much for the reblog Collin 🙂
You’re welcome, I am having problems with my preview blog photo. When I started following myself. How can I changr it please?
Oh dear, I’m afraid the same applies in not knowing how to help out Collin – really… I think I should belong in the 19th century – give me a pencil and paper or needle and thread and I can work wonders LOL, but I am a technophobic really. maybe add it to the ”ask post” ?!? 😉
