Way back in the year, our family friend Ronnie, commissioned me to do a little box canvas pen and ink painting of sheep to match the other one, of cows, which he had bought from me previously. I had said I would go and take photographs and then decide on which would make the best composition for the painting. As he wasn’t in any rush, I got a little side tracked, but did let him know a few times that I hadn’t forgotten!….Time crept on, more speedily than I would have liked and before I knew it it was September…halfway through the month was Ronnie’s birthday!!!! I decided I would make up for the time he had been waiting by giving it to him as a surprise for his birthday, that was when I had done it of course ;-/ Still I hadn’t been able to go and get any photographs…so, it would have to be an imaginary scene… I think all turned out well in the end, Ronnie was thrilled with his little 9 inch x 12 inch box canvas surprise painting and I got to splash around with some inks again 🙂
I wonder what sheep gossip about over their garden fences??? In an imaginary scene it could be almost anything – but, probably about the cost of wool these days!!! ;-/
I love this and it’s clever the way you draw the eye into the scene with other points of interest such as the wooded area. Have you got a photo of the cow canvas you did before?
I’m so pleased you like it, I love to take people as far into my pictures as I can perspectively, obviously much artistic licence as you want when its all made up 😉 As you will see about the only thing similar to the cow painting is the size of the box canvas and the same inks but used quite differently as this is an actual scene in Bolton taken from a photograph

But still Ronnie was more than happy, which was all that mattered in the end 😀
They’re all quite different, in different media, aren’t they? It’s the Tor that draws you in further this time. Quite fabulous:)
When I was compiling my portfolio for exhibitions it was something I liked to do, showing a comparison of the same scene in different media, they can look poles apart and yet still be the same! 🙂
They do look like they are talking across the road, great picture.
Thank you so much, it really only just hit me that is how it looked as I was putting the post up!
I seem to have been so busy of late with so many different projects, I don’t think I have actually been taking in the finished pieces before moving to the next! 🙂 Having a catch up day ended up being a surprise for me too
Lovely! This place must be like Hobbiton.
Precisely ! 😉
What a delightful little scene and oh so cleverly captured, I’m not surprised your friend was thrilled 🙂
Thank you so much for your lovely comments! 🙂 I really think he had given up hope , but I always get around to things….eventually ;-/
Time really does seem to gallop by doesn’t it, or is that me getting older and having memory lapses ?? at least you kept your painting mojo within reach I’m pleased to see.
I don’t know what it’s like where you are today but it’s soo dark, wet and chilly here at the cottage I’m really torn as if to light my penny candle to send a search party out for the old knitting mojo
You don’t think your sheep were discussing how woolly headed they were looking ? or if the black sheep had been mischievous ? I personally think the duo were making sheep’s eyes across at the new sheep on the block across the lane 🙂
Have a creative day… I’m off to partake in a touch of gruel for breakfast, I found thrupence while cleaning last week and thought what the L treat the sen lass 🙂
By heck gruel!!! now that is a treat especially for breakfast and on a work day too, I expect this has encouraged you to clean more often if those are the rewards, LOL
What happened to summer???? I thought I had got up in the middle of the night! and to a wild windy day here as well – as if that wasn’t miserable enough, I discovered we had been flooded in the conservatory by the driving rain making its way in through the doors….My only creativeness so far has been with my mopping techniques and the odd high pitched shriek as a giant spider made an appearance from behind my storage boxes 😦
Hopefully that might change now the rain has stopped
My your little knitting mojo has got the hump! Still awol?!? If the smell of that gruel doesn’t entice it back I dread to think how long it will be missing ….;-/
It all depends which way the wind blows as to if I get rain water in the back door LOL, https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&docid=TTLSYaBox2D5WM&tbnid=qGGHBjRYyHTSSM:&ved=0CAcQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fnicksayswhat.co.uk%2F2010%2F05%2F05%2Fplenty-juan-sheet-advert%2F&ei=wMcyVIbkHMXW7QaSg4GIAQ&bvm=bv.76802529,d.ZGU&psig=AFQjCNE3thOqHZn9kMLEBnyo6ywz6m7g3w&ust=1412700490601416 this guy is never around when needed!
I did a little cast on this afternoon…..so far so good, I think I might entice knitting mojo back with the lure of a flour and water biscuit dipped in my gruel for good measure…..if that doesn’t work I’m taking to the gin and will be sulking myself until further notice
Just where is Juan Sheet when you need him??? LOL ! I think maybe just ‘Juan’ wouldn’t have been enough even with his coordinated wiggle and wipe technique ;-/
My word, all that gruel and finally it was a water biscuit that tempted mojo back for a cast on…Tut, unbelievable these mojos…! Well it sounds like the random distribution of crochet mags probably did a lot to help too 🙂 I wonder was the project for you in the end or maybe a new heritage bunny just so you can bare this in mind in case knitting mojo has another strop?!?
Hmm – very clever pretending you are not bothered if mojo disappears again as this will make it think you aren’t bothered(good reverse psychology)…also it gives you the perfect excuse for a swig… or four..five?? LOL
I do hope the flood has receded and I fear I was unable to contain a snigger at the thought of your bustle swaying from side to side as you mastered your wiggle and wipe technique, I do hope you didn’t put your back out !!! surely Dearest with his golf stance would have been a much more suitable candidate for the job …yet I assume he was otherwise engaged 😦
Would you believe it Neurotic Cat graces me with a sit upon my lap but twice a year….I held out such hopes, I cast on, knitting mojo peeped over the chaise ..then Neurotic Cat decided that would be the ideal time for a snooze on my apron putting paid to any more crafting.. I didn’t feel able to cast her aside …as Beloved is in The Capital I took advantage of Neurotics added warmth….saved lighting the stove thus my piece of coal is safe for another day, as I’m on day release today I shall try to win knitting mojo over, or take to the gin depending on the outcome
Goodness it was touch and go whether I would be washed away in the flood, I surveyed the scene, then hitched up my petticoats and tucked them into my bloomers first off, after all I didn’t want to add to my daily chores by having to get the mangle out later as well! You surmised quite correctly My Dearest was in fact absent from the chaos due to roof repairs elsewhere, it would have been a perfect moment for his practised stance, however I eventually matched they sway of the deluging waves wiggling and wiping as I went ;-/ Now the only thing I have to fear in my workspace is the lurking mini tarantula….
Don’t you always find it’s all or nothing…? First mojo puts in a visit, then Neurotic cat decides to claim you on the same day, at least the inheritance is saved!
I hope your freedom today has been fruitful…either in the knitting mojo return and /or in the juniper berry department???
What is it with Neurotic Cat she is clinging to me like a leech !!!!! I have the suspicion she may be the knitting mojo thief, tis peculiar how mojo disappears then Neurotic Cat makes an appearance specifically as I’m using white yarn and need to keep it well away from any detritus.I was able to mesmerise knitting mojo into lingering for an hour or so, perhaps she will consider being a faithful companion once more, if not I’m coveting a habitual habit with said Juniper berry …which sounds so much more attractive than having a gin derived tendency don’t you think.
Is your Dearest any sort of Tarantula Whisper that could come to you aid? or will you be left to your own devices to wrestle said beast from your workspace? I’m in a state of nervous disposition fearing for your safety
I hope to hear from you soon regarding your acts of bravery when faced with certain physical harm
The poor girl…..It sounds like she is trying to comfort you in her own Neurotic way ;-/ ! animals are very sensitive to our distresses so maybe its her best attempt to distract you from any bad vibes you might still have whilst crafting in white yarn, but, Its a relief to hear the knitting mojo is back on the scene once more, even in short bursts.
Dearest definitely isn’t the type to whisper…might he come to his maiden in distress ??? That all depends on the sporting fixtures and how the balls lie at the precise time of my next Tarantula scare….????? For fear of the beastie tip toeing into my personal space whilst working I have put the following in place;
Conkers all around my feet, My everything tucked into my highest leg boots, I couldn’t even begin to imagine how I would react if it were to crawl up my skirts whilst they draped on the floor – so better safe than sorry , they are well tucked in and of course my witches broom, should it approach from a distance – I have time to fly away!!!!
Since you mention being faced with certain physical harm….it is a bit dangerous sitting in the middle of all my tarantula precautions ;-/
This drawing is so wonderful! I would love to take a stroll along that road. 🙂
I know me too 😉 It’s funny how a little bend disappearing off into the distance makes you feel that way, we have so many little lanes around that where we live, which is why it was so easy to paint the imaginary picture I suppose 🙂
