A bit of fun, Art, Artist, Artistic licence, Artistic moments, Arty, Being different, Many moons ago, Mosaic, Murals, Painting it large, Wall decoration

I have been known to have he odd moment of madness …..! After doing quite a few murals some years ago, I thought I would have a go at a mosaic…WELL, we did have a pretty boring kitchen wall!!! At first I considered some twee Parisian scene, but that just didn’t have relevance to our family….Golf however, not that I am the least bit a sport fan, but when our children were younger they both took it up after a few lessons. As my Dearest already played and the three of them toddled off each weekend, there was only one thing to do…get a set of clubs myself. Apparently I was a natural and could hit it for miles, well maybe not that far… – that was….. until my Dearest decided to show me how to do it…”keep your back straight, bend your knees slightly hold this thumb round that side other hand twisted that way keep your shoulders parallel…’ and so the instructions kept coming! My first attempt to hit the little ball, in the enforced mannequin position I had been shaped into by my Dearest, meant, not only did I miss the ball, I nearly fell over sideways following my swing…Aaargh! Why couldn’t he have just admired how I wanted to hit that tiny ball???? Dearest never gave up on me ;-/ and added more and more instructions on how to do it….sadly I was never able to get my own little swing back…. EVER!! Nonetheless we did all play golf together for many years – so when I found an old golfing calendar lodged in a drawer, I thought this picture was just the perfect thing for a boring wall!!! Over ten year on, it still makes people smile!
For something a bit different I thought I would do a post on what I used to do, rather than what I’m doing at the present. After mentioning my kitchen mosaic in a comment, Sheila from Sewchet, here on WordPress, expressed that she would like to see it…so here it is…along with a couple of snaps of old murals over the years…what can I say, our house has never been quite…..conventional! Artistic licence, I think they call it! 🙂
Working on the large scale was always a challenge and great fun too! I do miss doing them, though we seem not to have any spare walls at the moment for some reason…?

My daughter still won’t let us decorate over her mural!!! Sadly the quality of my records leaves more than a bit to be desired, most of the images are separate photos stuck together from an old album I dug out to give an overall impression of the paintings as the room was always too small to get the whole picture in one go! Still it shows you how I decorate with emulsion paint 😉
To the artistic Mrs T
AMAZING !!! obviously you taught Banksy well !! your art work is stunning and I bet it’s no mean feat being able to produce in
A) abundance
B) on such a large scale.
I did smile to myself at the thought of you contorted into an unnatural position trying to bat at the jack (as a non golf player I’m not sure I have the terminology correct)
It comes a great relief when ones Dearest takes up a hobby to leave us womenfolk to the important tasks ….i.e. crafting, and reposing on the chaise lounge
Regards
Yours in awe

Dear Mrs. P
Thank you so much for your lovely comments! If only I had thought of it as ‘batting the jack’ I don’t think I would have had a problem connecting with it – more to the point if I had thought of it as ‘….bashing the Andy..!!!” I have no doubt it would have been a hole in one 😉 What I will never get over, is being told… ‘…your are a natural..!’ AND THEN Dearest trying to change Me???? Really!? That can only be male psychology at work? Thankfully I have matured a little since his ridiculous antics of arranging my body into some contorted form and now have a clearer view of how women think you can control male psych deficiencies and use it to our advantage!!! First step feed him well… and then work on whatever you will afterwards, is always a good starting point ;-/ !!!!!
Children may be excused, but male definition of weekend fun as playing golf???….I can only define the golfing stance at a tee position to be a way of sobering up from the night before! ;-/ why on earth else would you put yourself into this ridiculous posture? Surely this is much more the order of the day?

I have a small question I was hoping you might have a theory about…WHY..???…does almost 99.9% of male sport involve balls?????????
I trust you are well …? and your vase on the mantel has a smattering of fluid left after the weekend, should you receive any flowers this coming week!?!
I dearly hope you may have some answers to my posed question, it is something which has puzzled me for years and I look forward to your replies in our next correspondence
Best wishes

My Dear Mrs T
Hurrah !!! Beloved and the 2 male offspring have never erred on the side of ball orientated sport and being spared this has caused me much relief, alas Beloved and 1st Born are majorly into Motor Sports which I have to admit leave me in a state of confusion, when the racing begins I toddle off to my housewife regime of cooking a meal only to return quite a considerable time later only to find the motor vehicle’s still hurtling around a cylindrical track, what is the point of that pray tell !!!! the only cheers that erupt from the menfolk is if a motorised conveyance should leave said track and smash into an irremovable obstacle ?? The menfolk assure me that Dollies with Brollies whom seem to gather in great numbers pre race and at the award ceremonies have nothing to do with their avid viewing ….Hmmm I have my doubts. So it is with great sorrow I’m unable to summarise why 99.9% of men are obsessed with balls……… in a sporting context.
Dear Mrs P
I must admit to being a bit disappointed that you can’t help further my knowledge about men and their fascination with balls…??? .though the very fact that your menfolk have little or indeed no interest in ball related sports I should imagine has been wonderful for you. Not only have I the misery of ball sports but also I too have endured many a year of firstly Dearest paying particular attention to the world of racing cars, and then our Son joining him. I do find the Dollies with Brollies quite entertaining, firstly how they all get to be the same shade of orange??? But the funniest thing about them is that they only seem to be wound up enough to twirl their head and hair several times before they assume a little static pose again…which does seem quite strange?!? I bet they have a special way of teaching them how to do it, perhaps on some mountain retreat there is a head twirling/special orange finishing school for upcoming Dollies???
If I find the answers …I’ll be sure to let you know!
Until the next time
Mrs. T
What a wonderful post! Thank you for sharing some of your earlier works – what treasures they are. As I’ve said so many times and will probably say again – you are one very talented lady. 🙂
Thank you so much for your kind words Jackie they really do mean a lot 🙂
I really enjoyed making the growing years colourful for the children – I really don’t think Jen will ever let us do anything to her wall, even though she has her own place now, she loves her little ‘tomb’ too much when she comes back for visits 🙂
I don’t blame her! I think I would feel the same way. 🙂
I think she reverts to child mode when she sees it on her visits, which makes it ever special 😉
Wow, just WOW! I can’t quite believe that anyone could create something quite as fabulous as your mosaic, and as for all the murals, well I can’t find the words to say how envious I am of such talent. Your ‘unconventional’ home is obviously stuffed full of character and conversation starters. Love it.:)
Thank you so much I’m glad you like them and of course I eventually got to tick it off my ‘ToDo list’:-) I know not everyone would want such pieces in their homes, but they were exciting things as the children were growing up, never any complaints about bedtime and the like…! 😉
Usually, people go speechless when they first see them, but do eventually get a good response as well !!! Its certainly been a colourful home of many themes over the years but, happily I haven’t frightened Dearest off to the point where he fears coming home after work – but he must have wondered ..’what next..?’ many times LOL 🙂
Wow, fabulous murals Caren!
Thank you so much Jennifer. They really were wonderful projects. I hope you are enjoying your inks and the budgies are going well 🙂
