Somewhere in my moments of creative madness, I latch onto a little idea…and then go off and make several for good measure!
Since making the little owl quilt for my mum, this seems to now be the case where lap quilts are concerned! Not something that happens over night as in small creations, but just over a week from start to last hand quilted stitch. This larger than normal (45 x 68 inches) lap quilt is just about as colourful as you can get! With cute little bears and bees in the centre of each panel too!
It is certainly something which should last for decades – if not centuries 😉 , as I reckon I must have put over two million stitches into its creation!
Since making the ‘little owl’ and now this ‘bears and bees’ lap quilt, I have been lucky enough to be commissioned to do two more! Not only that, but…given free reign to design, create and chose everything about them all based on one word briefs!
I couldn’t have been any happier!
What this space! The big unveil of the two finished quilts – coming soon 🙂
WOWEE, now that is amazing !!!!! enough to brighten the greyest of days. I love the idea of one word briefs although I dread to think where I would go with that LOL I do hope with all this creativity going on you haven’t let the housework slip 😀 Your imaginative creations never cease to amaze me, can’t wait for the next installment of your quilting destiny
So pleased you like it- YAY! My vacuum cylinder has never looked so colourful! 🙂 I really must thank my mum for all her hoovering efforts – I really have the excuse of not upsetting her by doing any housework before she gets here! LOL! The commissioned quilts are well on their way, so, as soon as I know they have full approval, I shall be putting a couple more posts up! 🙂
Your quilt is wonderful piece of art! Have fun designing two new ones. We are waiting to see!
I can’t wait to ”show and tell” I wish the postman would hurry along and deliver them so I can! 🙂
On a closer look at your quilting escapade, you are selling yourself short, I counted 2 million & 7 stitches !!!!!!!! no doubt done by candlelight while sat beside a parchment and quill so you can transcribe your thank you speech for your mothers housework challenge, so kind of you to let her use the new fangled hoovermatic machine while you make do with the broom 😀 😀 😀
Dam and blast, the candle must have flickered as I was counting, can’t believe I missed those seven stitches!
How well you set the scene of how I live, in fact, off to a ‘T’, Mrs. P.! I shy away from all things you plug into walls, witchcraft if you ask me!!! My daughter keeps insisting I get a food processor, or, indeed something/anything electrical for the kitchen.Though I insist the crackling fire and the poker along with the hand masher are absolutely all good kitchen utensils and appliances. Who could need more??? The masher is perfect for getting the last few squeezes out of those new fangled ‘tea bag’ thingys, plus I can hang them to dry, for the next day, on my poker over the fire too! 😉 Hmm – missing those stitches has made me wonder if there are candles with a higher emittance of light these days???
My dear friend I hope you don’t consider this a liberty, but I have dedicated a post to you concerning modern kitchen conveniences as you really ought to invest in a couple of little gadgets please don’t hesitate to tell me I have exceeded the bounds of our friendship xx
How wonderful to have a post dedicated to me! 🙂
I shall hop over and take a look!
Ooh lovely! I’ve just finished a (much smaller) quilt myself. Hand quilting looks so much more authentic than machine quilting, doesn’t it?
Thank you so much! 🙂 I have always preferred hand quilting, though there is nothing wrong with machine quilting either.
I’m sure you find the finishing of a quilt as satisfying as I do, I will pop over to your site and have a look around 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and commenting too, it’s always nice to have new visitors. I have just put up two more lap quilts on posts this afternoon – just in case you might be interested!
